Breast pump question

I just had to call Medela because one of my breast shields warped AGAIN. (The softfit)  She said it is probably because when I boiled it initially I put it into the boiling water, as opposed to putting it in when the water was cold and then allowing it to come to boil.  This is a really dumb question, but I am the only one who adds their stuff to already boiling water?

    Huh, I never would have thought of that.  I never boiled my shields (just ran them through the sterilize cycle in the dishwasher) but when we boil DS' pacis we always boil the water first and then throw them in.

    I also have the softfit shields for my medela pump...and we always sterilize by putting it into the already boiling water.  So, I'm definitely with you on putting stuff into it while its boiling, weird.
