Parenting after a Loss

Anyone else's LO love to screech?

DS's new favorite thing to do is screech/squeal/shriek.  He's always happy when he does it, but it's pretty shrill sometimes. He does it a lot too - at least a dozen times a day.  DH thinks he's mimicking a whistling noise (DH whistles at him a lot) but I'm not so sure.

Not yet, but I love that sound! I always smile when I hear babies doing it in a store or somewhere out and about.

  • Yes, yes, and yes. She even figured out if she screeches repetitively in church she gets to go walk around. Little stinker!

Last night DH said he thought only girls did this, and I said no. Thanks for helping me prove him wrong :)

  • Yep! H just started doing this yesterday a ton and it's her new favorite thing, usually its cute but sometimes its so ear piercingly loud!
  • Yes! He loves it. He will sit and smile and screech/scream. I'll do it back at him and he laughs. We call him our terridactyle (sp??). Last night we put him in his crib at his bedtime and listened to him screech at his mobile for almost 20 minutes before he fell asleep.

I call him a pterodactyl (weird how that is spelled!) too.  And one of my dogs is a snuffalupogus  because he snores like one.  Lots of great names in our household.

  • OMG Cora is so loud all of a sudden. We were at Target yesterday and everyone was just staring at her and smiling. AAAHHH.

  • Carson does it all dang day!  Sometimes it sounds like he's upset, he just found his voice and wants everyone else to know : )
  • OMG yes!  DD has been screeching up a storm lately.  DH really doesn't like it and wants to make her stop.  He has this whole theory that if we ignore her when she is doing it then she will stop.  But i kind of think it's fine and developmental.  Like one PP said... she found her voice and is letting everyone know.

  • DD does this only at night, when I'm putting her to bed!  She's so funny too!  I lay her on the changing table to change her into her PJs & all that good stuff, and that is when it starts!  LOL!  She screams, screeches, belly laughs, etc.  I don't even talk to her & she does it!  However, if DH is in the room with us she doesn't do it!  It's like a mommy and her thing!  Weird!  LOL!

This is hilarious - I have been calling DD a pterodactyl since she was a couple months old because of the noises she makes.  Does anyone even know what a pterodactyl sounds like?  I didn't think so - and yet we call all our babies this.

  • Oh my God I am so glad i saw this thread!  DD has been screeching for a few weeks now. Even making a growling sound.  It can be so loud and funny, but annoying too!

  • oh yes, little man LOVES to screech! I think it's hilarious and it always makes me laugh. today he was doing it non-stop for like 15 minutes when I was on the phone with my mom - she was dying laughing at him. it annoys DH sometimes when he keeps doing it, but I just love it. greatest sound in the world! (I also call him a little pterodactyl and a baby drack - hee hee)
