my angel baby has turned into a monster !!!!

k so I think I may be going through the "4 month wakeful Period".  Don't really know for sure though.  LO just turned 4 months last week.  Has been sleeping through the nights since she was 2 months old, and is generally a pretty "easy" baby.  But something changed.  When she was 3 months old I noticed that she started waking up early during her naps in the day, so, me thinking that she was done sleeping, I would get her up and play for a bit, then notice she was tired again so put her back to bed.  so she was taking 2 short naps in between each feeding.  after 2-3 weeks of this, I realized that I should just try to let her sleep through rather then getting her up.  It started to work, alittle bit.  She'd still wake up and I'd go in and sooth her without picking her up and it sometimes took a dozen times, but she would eventually go back to sleep.  Well its been about a month now, and she still hasn't taken a solid nap during the day.  and when she's tired, she gets CRANKY, and its almost as if she just refuses to sleep.  Mind you I don't have this problem at night time.  she still sleeps during the night, just not straight through the night.  last night i got up 4 times to roll her over to her side and sooth her back to sleep.

So, is this the sounds of the 4 month wakeful period or just lack on my behalf as far as sleep training goes.  how long does this wakeful period usually last, and last but not least, any tips on trying to establish better naps during the day.

thanks ladies

  • Abby went through something similar. Sounds like your dd is becoming more aware of her surroundings and wants to be in the action, but still is getting tired and cranky. Try to keep the routine constant, even though she isn't napping for long. Do you feed her right before she goes to sleep? That seems to work best for us. I also sit in her room to rock/feed her for naps - just like I do for bedtime.

Is the light in the room bothering her? Some stores sell blackout curtains. Most likely she is going through a growth spurt and she will get more constant in her naps (for a while - and then the next spurt messes up the routine again Smile )

    Good luck!
