TTC after 35

IVF Q?

Ok, tonight will be the first night of BCPs.  i will take them for 21 days.  Right now, I have my schedule for the next month or so and it looks like my ER/ET will occur when we have a family function - DHs mom's 80th birthday.  I don't know that he will want me to miss the event and from what I've been told, I couldn't really be out and about after the ET.  So, can you stay on BCPs for like 35 days?  therefore, pushing the ER/ET days past the big event?

I will call my nurse tomorrow but I was curious if you all knew.

TIA

Re: IVF Q?

  • I don't know how it affects your IVF schedule, but you can totally skip your period by skipping the placebo pill week and starting a new pack of pills.  The hormone varies throughout the month though, so your RE may want you to do a whole 2nd month of pills, not just 5 days.  If it were me, I would miss the party.  What you are going through is more important and I am sure your DH's family will understand.  Good luck!
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • My husband's family would understand...he wouldn't.  It's a big party and we've invested a lot in the planning $$ so I don't think he'd be ok with me missing it.  I'm totally fine with it.

I realize how skipping the placebos works when you are using BCPs like normal - but not sure it's so easy with IVF.  Waiting to hear.

  • Oh and i didn't mean 35 days...I meant 25 days.  I just need it to be like 3 days longer.

  • I was on bcp's for 6 weeks straight for this IVF cycle.  It really depends on your clinic and how many other couples they have cycling at the same time.  Most clinics like to do IVF in groups.

I'm sure they would be OK with it...as long as your doc's schedule works with yours...they will figure it out for you :)

  • Thanks Char.  My REs office is very large - 17 offices in the DC Metro area.  For instance, I have to travel about 30 miles away to one of the other offices where they conduct the ET/ERs.  I don't think they are trying to schedule me with any one but that makes sense why they are sending me there, as opposed to my closest office.  I think all their branches go to one location for the IVF and weekend IUIs.

  • It probably won't be a problem if you still fit in the window for the invitro lab's cycle. Just ask the nurse. I rode in a Mardi Gras parade three hours after my retrieval with permission from my Dr. I really felt fine as soon as the anesthesia wore off.

  • Agree with pps, also ER/ET are dependent on how fast your follies develop and what your E2 levels. So even if they say they anticipate your ER will be on a specific day, in reality in may vary by a few days depending on your body. Good luck, getting a plan is very exciting!
