Kind of irritated with photographer

Maybe some other pro photographers can tell me if I am being unreasonable.

I had some newbie shots done of DS when he was 3 weeks old DS is now 10 weeks old. Although I have gotten the pictures online (it still took her 4 weeks for that) and was finally able to do his birth announcement I still haven't gotten a cd of the images! So I can't make any hard copies of his pictures I also paid an extra 30 bucks just for this CD! Is this a reasonable amount of wait time or just ridiculous?

  • I think an average time frame is 3-4 weeks, however what does it say in your contract?

  • No contract sadly. She is not a very good business person I think because she went to HS with my older sister she figures its OK to not have a contract.
  • wow. you only had to pay 30 bucks for the CD? My photographer charges 2000k if you want a CD of images you can print copies from. Needless to say, we won't be buying the CD.

I'm not complaining about the price DH spends 30 bucks on starbucks in a week. I was just kind of put off because she ran this special and she said in the package a cd of images (she never does prints just gives you rights to the image) then the day of the shoot she said oh I think I am going to charge extra for the CD. Not a business woman but pretty sure thats bad business!

  • I think it is ridiculous.  It wouldn't take 15 minutes to put those pics on a disk.  I would call her.  My friend had hers professional done.  I think she had her stuff back in a week and there was a website where friends and family could look at them and purchase them.

I was just commenting because I was jealous :D I wasn't being snarky or implying you shouldn't complain.

  • We got ours same day.

$30?!!?!  I just paid $1200 for ours.  Regardless of the price, that seems like a long time.  Our photographer said 4 weeks.

  • Mine was shorter than that and my photog gave birth in the midst of it. For the announcement she emailed me the pics i wanted. Our CD was way more than 30 bucks too.

I think you should call and ask about it. Even if she is editing everyone it shouldn't take that long.
  • I'm not complaining about the price! Just the time frame I think we're missing the point here and you pay for the shoot not just the CD.

I agree that the time frame is not appropriate.

If you lived in the same state I would send you the info. I guess with the CD I am getting what I paid for?! LOL

  • That seems a little unreasonable.  I went to HS with our photographer, but very likely would have chosen her regardless.  We didn't order any prints and just the CD with rights to reproduce as we wanted.  She normally charges $150 for the CD, but was running a special.  I got an hour long session with a CD for $50 (she was supposed to charge me $75, but didn't).  I got my CD within 10 days.  It would have been sooner, but she was a little backed up and didn't have a chance to photoshop images right away.  She photoshopped about 65 of our 165 images and left the others as is.  I'm quite pleased with her work.
  • I just did newborn photos yesterday and got them online later that night and all my friends said they got theirs in 7-10 days.

  • Mine was 2 weeks to view the proofs and we live 3 hours away from him. He emailed them to me the night he finished editting. He also sized them down so I could put them on facebook, without being asked. Then overnighted the proof book. Then when I told him I wanted to buy the rights ($200), he overnighted a CD of the larger images for better copying. He is moving to Cali and I am very upset. I love him!

So, yes, your photographer is taking way too long. Call her and give her a deadline. If she is unwilling to comply, contact the BBB.

    Good luck!

  • my friend is a professional photographer and as far as i know she tries to make sure she gets the pictures to her clients within a week.
