TTC after 35

Need help with reading OPK's :)

I started testing three days ago , this is the second month I've used them. I'm on calendar day eight. I test once around twelve and again around eight in the evening. I noticed today the test line seems to be getting darker. Does that mean I'm getting closer to ovulation? Last month the tests never showed I was ovulating at all and the test line never seemed to get even a bit daker.

  • I believe that would indicate the LH in your system is getting stronger.  Is it darker than thetest line?

  • Some people will always show a line for LH, so that is why the test line needs to be as dark or darker than the control line and that would be your surge.  I started on CD 11 and had no line whatsoever until about CD13 when I got a very faint line and then it got darker everyday until CD16 where it was the darkest (as dark as the control line).  So, yes, I guess you are getting closer to ovulation.  Keep testing, though until that line gets really dark!  I also think testing twice a day is a good thing b/c you can miss that surge.  I plan on testing twice a day next month.  Good luck!!

  • Thanks guys. It's not as dark as the control line, but I'm hoping since it seems to be getting darker that it will eventually. I guess the testing really doesn't matter much this cycle anyway since DH and I are having a nookie-a-thon this cycle. We are on the every other day plan, and we started on CD 6  :)

  • Mine always start to get darker as O approaches.  But from what I've read, that doesn't happen for everyone.  I buy the digitals (smiley face ones) on e-bay and if I think it is a positive, I back it up with a digital.

    Good luck with your nookie-a-thon!

  • Those line tests had me going nuts...is THIS darker than the test line??  Is THIS?   So I finally decided my sanity was worth the splurge and I started buying the digital OPKs with the smiley face.  I've pretty much narrowed down my window at this point, so I usually see a smiley face the first time time I test during a cycle...which means I'm only using one test per cycle.
