Postpartum Depression

Zoloft, Mirena, and PPA

I've had mirena for one week. Prior to getting mirena, I'd been feeling great on my current dose of zoloft for awhile. The past 4 days, I've had anxiety again. I used to feel this way on birth control pills, but I was hoping mirena wouldn't have this side effect. I want to get it removed tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure my OB is going to tell me to give it time. I don't want to give something time when it has, and could potentially continue to, make my anxiety return. Anyone else experience this? What did you do?

Re: Zoloft, Mirena, and PPA

  • I had horrible mood swings on Mirena.  My OB convinced me to give it a few more weeks when I wanted to get it out after 6 weeks (even after she told me the same thing happened to her).  Then I had to justify to her, the nurse, the NP why I wanted it out.  I felt like yanking the damn thing out myself - my body, my decision!!!  I felt like I was practically talking to the drug reps.  I found quite a bit of info online on Mirena affecting mood so I know I wasn't imagining it.  If you're sure you want to get it removed then stand firm.

Did you finally get them to take it out? And after, did you feel better? I'm scheduled to get mine taken out, but the earliest my OB can do it is next Wednesday. Now I'm just hoping insurance will cover paragard, despite the fact they just paid for mirena!
  • I want mine out too. My moods are horrible. I've had mine for almost 1yr and am ready to remove it myself. I love not having a period but I would rather deal with 1wk of PMS and horrible periods then years of feeling like this.
