teething tablets= the most awesome thing EVER!

so Emmie has been waking up so much during the night & not going back to sleep for like 2 weeks now.  I just thought it was a phase, but noticed how much she was chewing on her paci & other toys.  I decided to grab some teething tablets & oh the sweet relief!!!!  She still woke up last night at 4 but I gave her some tablets  & within 5 minutes she was snoozing again!!!

oh how I love thee!!!! lol!

    What are these tablets called and where do you get them?  LO has been waking up 1-2 times a night for the last 6-8 weeks!!  He chews his tongue and anything else he can get his hands on!

    hylands teething tablets!  I got them at the local pharmacy for like $5 bucks by the baby orajel

    Also, I kinda was unsure about giving a baby a dissolvable (sp?) tablet, but it dissolves immediately.  You just put a couple under their tongue (they are tiny & I just put my finger over them until they dissolve and then stick her paci in her mouth after wards, works like a charm)

    Just curious if you asked your pedi about them?  Our pedi said not to use anything with Belladonna in it.

    no I didn't but I will now!  I know my sister used them on her boys & they were fine. 

    Why did he say not to? Now I'm curious!

    Don't stress!  I'm sure this is just one of the MILLION issues that pediatricians differ on.  My pedi said there has been some controversy over whether or not belladonna is safe for infants and for now she is advising her patients not to use anything with belladonna in it.

    Like I said, don't stress - but it might be worth asking your pedi about.

    A nurse mentioned here a few days ago that they were not safe to use often, I can't remember if she said not more than once a day or not more than once a week.  Definitely ask your pedi!

    Just called and asked & the nurse said it was fine.  She asked how many times a day I give them to her & I said that I only use them at night when she wakes due to gum pain & said that was fine.  

    If she's awake, she is chewing on teethers/hands/bib etc.. so there's no need for them then.

    You should be fine, even if you give LO 2 or 3 tablets a day.  DS uses them occasionally (teething pain hasn't ever been TOO bad, so I've only given him one a  day like twice a day).  

    From the hyland's website:

    "The amount of Belladonna alkaloids in teething tablets is minuscule, especially when compared to conventional medicine. Conventional medicines typically use 0.2 to 5 mg of Belladonna alkaloids per tablet as an anti-spasmodic ? roughly 1,000 to 25,000 times larger than the quantities used in Hyland?s Teething Tablets. The side effects sometimes caused by conventional medicines delivering more than 0.2 mg of Belladonna alkaloids ? such as dry mouth, blurred vision and urinary retention ? are not associated with homeopathic medicines because of their minute dosage.

    To put homeopathic dosages in perspective, typically a 10-pound child would need to ingest 1,000 Hyland?s Teething Tablets (at least 6 bottles of 125 tablets) to exhibit even the first possible side effect of Belladonna."

    oh thanks!  good info!  Yeah that was what I got from the dr's office.  Just don't over do it!
