Anyone decoupage?

I'm not a fan of the painted wooden letters that people hang on the wall with ribbon, so I was looking for framed wall art. I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I decided to get the wooden letters anyway and try something different. Rather than painting them and hanging them with ribbon, I want to decoupage them and mount them in a shadow box frame. I've never decoupaged before, so I was wondering if anyone has done it and can give me some tips.

  • super easy! Buy Mod Podge and those little cheap foam brushes.  Then paint the mod podge on the wooden letters and apply whatever paper you want pre-cut to the right size/shape.  Scrapbook paper turns out realy cute.  Then when you've covered the entire letter, paint a thin layer of the mod podge over the top to smooth and secure the paper completely and give it an even finish.

Great way to get a cute custom look!  Good idea!

  • I did the exact same thing, except I used the cardboard letter form vs the wooden one.  I got it at Joannes.  I used modge podge.  It was super easy and came out really cute.  I love it.  Good luck!
  • Follow the steps the above posters described, but I wanted to let you know you can use more than one type of paper, just cut in strips or fun shapes & overlap- I love how that turns out!
  • I've actually never used modge podge.  I use a mix of glue & water, soak the paper in that, stick to the letter.  Let it all dry and spray a coat of acrylic spray (in spray paint section of store).  Acrylic spray is basically a clear coat, you can get it in matte or glossy finish.

  • Thanks ladies! Cardboard letters sounds a lot better than the wooden ones. I didn't even think about that. They won't weigh the frame down the way the wood ones will!
