Update

So it hasn't been long, a little over 24 hrs since Allie was born but it feels like forever. Maybe that is because I had only slept 6 hrs in the past four days. Maybe it was because there were so many people that needed to be called and informed... telling the same story over and over trying not to cry or sound worried. I like to think yesterday felt so long because there seemed to be so much hope. When Allie was born she wasn't breathing on her own. Soon after she was born, we were informed about the umbilical cord being weird. Although they said that it shouldn't have had any effect on her development, no one had ever seen anything like it before so them saying that didn't help much. After a few hours I was able to see her. She had a breathing tube thing and another tube down her throat and she was just SO upset. But at least she was alive so being upset was a fair trade off. We were finally able to hold her around 8 last night. She was off of the breathing helper thing and no longer had the tube down her throat. She was so happy. They said they were going to try to go the night without the breathing tube. She is regulating her temp pretty well on her own. She just needs to work on trying to feed. She loves to suck on things though so hopefully this will only be a matter of time. Thank you everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Re: Update

  • So glad to hear she is doing so well.  You may want to set up a blog to keep people informed or give the job of passing info on to another person.  I found it much easier to let the info get passed on by other people

This! Have your mom or other close family member spread the word for you if you don't have time to blog it (that's what I did). I had no sleep for the first week as well. It's a rough time. It sounds like she's doing really well if she's already off the vent. Feeding took DS 9 days to master. GL to you and your little girl - I hope she's a quick learner and gets home super soon!

Ditto!  My sister took on the task of sending update e-mails out for us so that we could focus on what mattered and no have to relive everything over and over as we told the umteenth person what happend, why, what the road ahead looked like, etc.  It helped A LOT to have that taken care of.

I'm so glad to hear that Allie is doing well!  I hope you hve many more good days ahead!  And that you can get some much needed rest along the way!

and again- i'll give my vote to the blog idea... there's just too much going on at first to deal with keeping everyone updated too.

it sounds like she's doing great! breathing on her own is a big step- and the sucking thing will come along soon too. :)
