DS has completely lost his voice!

I am just at my wits end right now...DS got hoarse very suddenly two weeks ago.  It was the night we started him on rice cereal (the day he turned 5 mo.).  He was fine and then during his bath, DH and I noticed his voice was cracking.  By bedtime he was noticebly hoarse.  He wasn't running a fever and he seemed ok, but it got so bad so suddenly I immediately called the doctor and they said it's either 1. reflux or 2.  virus.  They told us to prop his crib up in case it was reflux and run a humidifier in case it was a virus and to call if it didn't clear up in a week.  It didn't clear up.  After 6 days I schd an apt w/ the doc and took him in .  Because none of his other reflux symptoms seemed to be worse, Doctor was 'certain' it was a virus (even though he'd never run a fever at any point) that would run it's coarse in 7-10 days from onset.  So we waited a few more days.  At 10 days he was still hoarse so I stopped the rice cereal thinking that it had to be reflux.  He started to get a little better for a few days and I thought we had solved it, but then last night it came back full-forse and worse than ever!  Today he can't even cry he just makes this pathetic little high-pitched whistle.  So I called the doctor (it's been 14 days since he initially lost his voice) and they basically said if he's not running a fever and he's eating ok to just continue what we've been doing (humidifier and keeping bed propped up), and to just give it a few more days!!  I'm SO frustrated!
