are already cracked and bleeding. I had blisters on them that have since been burst..thanks Livy..and they hurt so dang bad. I've tried using jell pads, creams, airing out, nipple shield and differnt positions/latches and colostrum to make them feel better...
You ladies have any other suggestions? Livy wants to feed all the time. I've got her limited to every two hours, had to give in and give her a paci but she still is rooting around and fussing for more boob. I'm hoping to have her off the paci by the end of this week, but I need my nipples to be less painful for that to happen.
Thanks ladies!
Re: My nipples...
Just throwing this out there: if it gives you some relief, don't throw away the paci. I never BF'd but I know a lot of girls just needed some sort of break during those first few days, so don't be so hard on yourself.
I also hope you get help soon. Bleeding nipples sounds pretty hellish to me.
No, they had the same lady on this morning and I wasn't seeing her again. And I've talked to so many nurses, doula, ect...They all say I'm doing everything right and it will get better. NOT! I broke down in Target's parking lot today because there was no way I could put her on my breast without crying. Then when I did it she spit it back out, I think because of the scabs. How gross is that? I feel like a freak.
So then I actually tried givng her a bit of water with an eye dropper to help her get through the car ride...and she started choking. Troy had to pull over on the freeway because I had to yank her out of her seat and flip her over. Poor thing couldn't breath. UGH, I just don't get this whole thing....
OMG, thank you so much! I'll be trying that right away! How often should I be doing this?
there's nothing that helps...only time. mine are still healing, but it's way better now, they are still pink, but I don't have the amount of pain I did in the beginning. I cried, a lot. it sucked, i would make my H give her a bottle so my nipples could get a break.
good luck. don't give up.
I had the same problem. One of the nurses took orange pico (she said this was the best kind - not sure why..) tea bags and got them wet and then froze them and me put them in my bra after nursing. They feel soooo good. And you can do this for as long as you like (some of the gel pads you can only use for 5 days). The tea bags really helped me a lot - but they will stain.
As far as the pacifier goes the lactation consultant I saw said it was ok to use if you had a good latch down already. My LO loves to suck - so when he is not hungry anymore but just wants to suck I give him the paci.
I've still got mine being slughtly scabbed, If it feels pinching then your latch isn't fine. The LC at the hospital told me mine was perfect, even when I felt like it was pinching, it made my nipples crack open a bleed.
I went to a la leche league meeting, and wonderfully enough the leader was a LC, she somehow helped my LO latch on, and it only hurt for the fiirst second on two.
She told me that getting the latch right is all about placing with the positioning of your LO's head and your arms.
Taking a warm bath and submerging your nipples for a while might feel better (if you're able to do that yet).
I hope you find a competent one soon, if you don't call up your local lll person and see if they have one to recommend, or if they can help with your latch.
Do you have a pump? If so I would try pumping while your nipples heal. Lots of lanolin, tea bags and time. Also if they are cracked that bad you might see about getting a Rx for some meds for them. I can't remember the name of it but defiantely ask a competant LC. Also, nothing wrong with a paci,IMO at least
I hope that it gets better for you! I had that same problem with dd and it got so bad I gave up bfing.
This link has a TON of info. on sore nipples. Hope you find something that helps!
