Need Bottle Recs...

I BF but sometimes pump and give DD a bottle if we have company coming over, when we go out or when we leave her with Grandma...she used to have no problem with it, but lately she screams bloody murder when we come near her with a bottle...I think we are going to try using different bottles and see if that helps (we use Avent now...) but I have no idea which ones to get...

So here is my question...if you EP or FF what bottles do you use and why??

Re: Need Bottle Recs...

  • I BF and pump.  We tried EVERY bottle...Avent, Born Free, Dr. Brown's, Drop ins & Breastflow and the only bottle that worked for us and Max was Tomee Tippee.  We liked the Breastflow but the nipple collapsed too much and it was frustrating dealing with a bunch of pieces. The TT nipples look and feel very similar to a breast.

Another thought...what flow nipple are you using?  Maybe your LO is fussy because the nipple flow is too slow?

  • We've tried almost every kind out there and Born Free are by far the best for us.  You can get them on Clearance at BRU all the time, 3 for $17.  They are great for gas, the nipples don't collapse and are wide for BFd babies, and you can shake them all day and they will never leak.

Dr Browns--hated the nipples, which are bad for BFd babies, and they are a PITA to clean.  Leaked really badly too.  I had about 20 that I gave to a bumpie.

Avent--leaked really bad, the nipples collapsed easily, and she didn't like them as much because the nipples are harder than the Born Frees.  I have about 20 of these too (Some hand me downs, some from gifts) and was going to use them for daycare but my DH vetoed them this weekend.

Playtex Dropins--Really great for traveling purposes since you only need to wash the nipples and there are no parts to manage.  Playtex Ventairs were good too, but I didn't like how the bottle came apart.

For babies who won't take anything else--BreastFlow, I think they have them at Target.  Recommended by my lactation consultant (who also uses Dr Browns as an example of what not to use) for babies who are breastfed for weaning onto bottles.  They are pretty neat, the nipples collapse pretty easy, but they work like a breast does, the baby has to work more to get the milk out.  Pretty cool concept.  Allie ate slower with them which was a pain, but I can see how they'd be great for BFd babies who don't like bottles.

  • We started with the NUK bottles- but DS spit up a lot with them, so we tried Dr. Brown's- no luck there either.

The Playtex Drop-ins are what we are using right now, and they seem to be prefect! We have been using them for a little over a week. DS seems to like them- and we noticed a major decrease in his number of spit ups.

  • I nurse and bottle feed. We use Playtex Dropins. This picky little guy went through Dr. Browns and a few others before liking the dropins.
  • I BF and give DD bottles of pumped milk, she loves the tommee tippee ones the best, but I'm lucky in that finally she will pretty much take whatever. But in the beginning she was picky and we found those to be comparable to the boob for her. We got them at BRU.
  • I nurse, and bottle feed at day care, we use Born Free and absolutely love them.
