Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Zantac users

Pedi prescribed Zantac for Addie and the first two days with it were not fun. She screamed and spit it out and then vomited every time we gave it to her. Should we ask pedi for something different or does it get better? What was your experience when starting Zantac?

Re: Zantac users

  • My pdei prescribed the same thing for my son and we had the same issue I spoke to the pharmacist and she told me to mixsugar with it in the medicine bottle and give it to him like that ( you must shake the bottle good before drawing out the meds) which she failed to tell me but now he takes it 2 times a day with no issues at all.  I tasted it and before it tasted horrible and the only flavor that hides the taste any is grape then it just taste life a big nasty grape.  hope this helps

  • OUR ZANTAC HAS A MINTY FLAVOR. LO HATED IT AT FIRST AND IT TOOK AWHILE. NOW SHE LOVES IT! MAYBE ASK THE PHARMACY FOR A FLAVORED VERSION. THERE R DIFFERENT GENERIC BRANDS U CAN GET.
  • I had the pharmacy flavor it (grape). I also give him his paci the second I'm finished giving him the medication. That way he starts sucking on the paci right away and dosen't have a chance to spit it out.

  • Both of my girls have been on or are currently on Zantac.

Getting it flavored with grape has been a huge help. I also give it in very small incriments. That has seemed to help the most. It does take time, but it has gotten much better.

My oldest DD weaned off of it at 6.5-7 months and by that time she would take the full amount without spitting it out.
