How long until DC used big potty?

DS is 3 and still going on his small potty.  We have a ring for the regular toilet and he has used it a few times but recentlyhas refused.  He is completely potty trained during the day.  Should I just take away the small potty cold turkey and tell him he is a big boy and its time to use the regular potty?  Or is this "traumatic"?  Thanks for any input!!

    DS was completely PTed for about 6 weeks before I just took away the little potty cold turkey. I did warn him that it was going away, though... Like I would say, "Two more days and the little potty goes bye bye." etc... He did fine with the transition, though he did occasionally ask for the little potty still. GL!

    We didn't use the little potty long at all with DS- I was tired of emptying and cleaning it :)  and with DD we pretty much had her use the big potty from the start.  It was like they felt like they were grown up using the big potty.  I think he'll handle it well!  Good luck!

    My girls stopped wanting to use the little potty so they made the decision I guess---It was right around or just before 3yrs old for my DD#2 I know.  I never used the little pottyseat insert--they just balanced themselves.  DD#2 is 2yrs, 3mo & hasn't used a stool or anything probably since February.

    DS never used a potty chair.  We did have a ring, but we started sitting him backward on the toilet so he wouldn't feel like he was falling in and he preferred that over the potty ring.

    I just took it away because I was sick of cleaning it! We have potty rings and she was a little freaked out the first couple of times but she adjusted quick.
