Pregnant after 35

I heard there's a mama over here...

...who is dealing with a flat headed baby.

Can we chat? (Unless it's browneyes...in that case we've already chatted!)

  • I don't think you are referring to me, but I am going to butt in anyway!

DD wore a Starband helmet for 6 months (beginning around 6 months of age). She had brachycephaly and torticollis. The helmet and physical therapy worked wonders! Happy to answer any questions you may have.

  • In the end, my ds didn't have to wear the helmet but we went many times to the plastic surgeon because of plagiocephaly and torticollis until his head started to get better.  I'm also happy to answer any questions if I can.  I had a wonderful plastic surgeon who was so good at explaining what was happening to my ds's head.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

  • We don't have the helmet yet, but we have a consult at Sick Kids hospital next week and if we decide to go with the helmet they'll fit him for it right then.

I'd really like to know how you kept your LO's cool in the summer if they wore it over the summer months.  It looks like it will be so hot, and DS will be in it right through the summer.

Also, would you think it's ok to take it off for a couple of hours if we decide to go the beach or something?  We were told he'd be in it 23 hours a day...but once in a blue moon is it okay to break that rule?

  • So I'm a dummy...I think I meant to post this on parenting after 35...Oops!
  • DD wore the helmet through July, so she def had a little bit of summer. We did take a vacation to Hilton Head, and she didn't wear it at the beach, or out in the sun. It was just too hot. Overall, we really didn't cheat much, simply because I wanted to be done with the helmet as soon as possible. Just use your best judgement. If you are outside for a long time, and it's getting really hot, take it off for a while.

We went in for measurements every 2 weeks. Each time we would see a difference and that was always so encouraging.

    Good luck!
