Success after IF

Single embie transfer : Now I am worried we made the wrong decision!

UGH! I swear I dont think I will ever be optimistic when it comes to this process!  We did a SET of a 8 cell, grade 1 'perfect' looking embie on Friday.  I did not expect to have decent quality, but since we had several good looking embies, we decided to do one instead of a 2 embie transfer.  I know that I really dont want twins right now, but I am feeling like we should have just taken the opportunity to increase our chances since IVF is such a difficult process to begin with.  Any reassurance would be appreciated.!  I know SET's can work, but Im just so nervous...

  • ((HUGS)).  It sounds like you made the best decision for you and your family.  There's no turning back now, so try not to beat yourself up - plus - with 1 perfect embie you can have 1 perfect baby!!

(FWIW, after my first IVF theRE said we could do 2 or 3 and we decided on 2.  Almost immediately I second guessed the decision and spent the next few days questioning if we did the right thing.  So, you are not alone in your worry!)

Hang in there, and hope that one embie is snuggling in nice and tight!

  • I know how hard it is to stay positive especially during the 2ww but there are plenty of success stories on this board with SET.  You transferred a "perfect" embryo so hold on to that hope right now.  The decision you made was the right one for your family at this time.

I'm struggling with the same decision right now.  We are scheduled for a FET next month and I keep going back and forth over a SET vs. transferring 2.  My DH really wants to transfer 2 but I don't think I'll be able to make a decision until we hear how they survive the thaw (if they do).

Good luck!!!  When is your beta?  Keep us posted!

  • I transferred 2 perfect 8 cells, and they are both rocking and rolling 23 weeks later!    Don't second guess your decision.   Never in a million years did I think I'd have twins with my crappy eggs, but it happened.    Good luck with the one!
  • I think you made a good choice because of the quality and all..you made the responsible decision for you and your family.

hang in there! I have good feelings that we'll be seeing a BFP post from you real soon : )

  • Your quality was GREAT this time, and you had wonderful looking blasts. You made an educated choice based on the knowlage you had and what is best for your family. I know it is so hard to not 2nd guess yourself but I am very very hopeful that the little perfect blast is snuggling in tight.
  • Hang in there!  It is a tough decision.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!  : )

I think you did the right thing.  In feb. we made the same decision to transfer only 1.  I was too concerned with all the risks involved with twins.  I kept rethinking our decision, but now i am sooooo glad that we did it!

I always thought twins were cute and always secretly wanted them. However, after having PTL with DD, i didn't want to take any chances.  Now i am so relieved.  I would be having a heart attack figuring out child care, my sanity, and just being able to deal with a 20 month old and being pregnant with twins.

Good luck!  I hope to hear about a BFP soon!

  • Ok, sitting here being 9w pregnant from a SFET, I can tell you it works.

Also remember, that transferring 2 does not double your odds of getting pregnant. Not even close. My chances of getting pregnant w/ 2 blasts was about 20% and somewhere between 16-18% with a single blast.

    It will be ok!

  • Oh--FYI--I transfered on day 3 an 8 cell, grade 1.  Not a blast  :)

  • I've had two successful SETs so far (both day 3 transfers, 8 cell embies) if you're looking for some hope!  We did on SET during our FET which was a BFN, but both fresh cycles were successful!  I am a person who (for me and our family for financial reasons, age, diagnosis, etc) wasn't comfortable upping the chance of multiples so I felt comfortable doing a SET.  Of course if we had to do multiple IVFs I would consider upping the transfer to 2 embies, but I also had so few eggs/embies to start with we just did the one each time.
  • We weren't trying for twins but we only had two embies and neither were that great so we transferred both.  I think u did the right thing.

I don't think it matters spread wise 1 vs. 2. Plus success rates off a fresh cycle are better than those of an FET, so you're still ahead :)

  • Hey, I felt the same way in between my transfer (single embryo) and my BFP. Hang in there ... it can definitely work! I kept repeating to myself "I'm pregnant until proven otherwise...."

Sounds like you had a great embryo ... and great chances. Good luck!!

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • Statistics show that eSet is as successful as transfering more.  You made the right decision!  I truly feel like even on day one of fert they can tell which is the leader.  Don't second guess and hold onto hope!!
