If you sew, can I snag some advice?

Does this look like a decent enough one to where I can make small things? I'm meaning, blankets (for DS) and other small projects.

I'm hoping to not spend much more than this if I'm going to be just starting out.

    I have never heard of this brand, but it seems like it would do everything you would need. Do you have a lot of garage sales around you? I have gotten some older sewing machines at garage sales for $20-30.

    We do and don't. I'd have to drive a few miles to find one, I might do that today.

    I've never used a mini machine before, nor am I familiar with this brand, so I really can't give you any advice.  If you hate it, would Overstock let you return it?  

    Have you checked Craigslist, or would you even consider buying a used machine? I wonder if you could find one that's in good shape for about the same price as this one.  Just a thought.

    the only ones on Craigslist are antique ones with tables. I can put up a wanted ad that migh turn up something. I'm not too sure on Overstock's policy.

    I stand by my Singer sewing machine I had given to me. My mom bought it at Walmart for around 100 bucks and it is still ticking, 6 years later. I have sewn through heavy materials such as thick leather and made quilts with it as well. For longevity, I would suggest a Singer brand. Mine is not computerized and there's a guy who can do any routine maintenance on it because of this.

    I have a fairly inexpensive Kenmore. I love it.. DH got it at Sears. I can do every sewing project needed with it. I dont think he spent more than like 70 bucks around the holidays a few years ago.

    I'm not familiar with mini machines, because for not much more money you can get a full machine and it's worth it to have the strength to go through 4-6 layers of fabric and the heft to be stable while you sew. . .
