Pregnancy Classes/ Mommy Circles

I have been trying to search for local pregnancy classes in the area and I haven't really found many options.

I was looking mostly into Bradley and Lamaze classes. I'm also interested in any prenatal exercises classes.

Also, I have been looking into any women clubs/mommy circles to join. I just move to Omaha (husband is military) a few months ago and would really like to make new friends so my stay here won't be so lonely. However, I haven't found any groups information online that is current/active.

Re: Pregnancy Classes/ Mommy Circles

  • Welcome to Omaha!!  I am a mom of 2 little girls and a Birth Doula so hopefully I can help you out with a little information!!  I know one of the local Bradley Instructors and would be happy to pass on her info if you are interested.  I know that she has a new class starting next month.  Also one of my best friends has a natural childbirth class starting next month.  She currently teaches Childbirth Education at Lakeside hospital but this is not a hospital affiliated class.  She is certified to teach childbirth education.  I recently observed her childbirth class at the hospital and LOVED IT!!  She made it so much fun and everyone was laughing and having a good time while learning all kinds of very important information.  She is hilarious but so good at teaching at the same time.  You can check out more information on her website... www.babylovebirthservices.com  Her name is Kristi.  I know that there are a couple of different MOMS groups in the area and that can be an excellent resource for meeting other moms.  If you check out momsclubofomaha.com you should be able to find one in your area.  Also check momsofomaha.com.  A lot of local churches also have MOPS groups which are really fun.  One Tree Yoga has prenatal Yoga classes that are supposed to be really great and its a great place to meet other moms.  You can check out their website at www.onetreeyoga.com  and check out their schedule and where they are located.  I hope some of this was helpful.  Also if you are looking for a doula, since I am one, I know most of the other doulas in the Omaha area.  I'd be happy to chat or refer you on to someone else!  Also there is on post partum doula in town that I know of and she is AWESOME, if you would like to contact her.

  • Wow, thank you so much. I would also love more information on the bradley classes. I am still pretty early (14 weeks) but would love to know all my local options. Also, thanks for all the websites. I found them useful.

I haven't decided yet if I wanted a doula or not. I have read articles about the benefits of having a doula, but haven't made the decision... I think once I am further along, and take some birth classes.. I can make a better decision. (This is my first pregnancy, so I don't really know what to expect.)

Right now, I am planning on giving birth by the midwives at UNMC. I am planning to go as natural as possible when it comes to my birth plan.

  • No problem!  Glad you found the websites helful!  Thats what us experienced moms are supposed to do...help out the first time moms because we all know how overwhelming that first baby can be.  There is just so much information to take in!  I remember how that felt!  Anyhow...the Bradley Teacher I know is Kristen Treat.  Her email is ktreat627@gmail.com or you can call her at 657-0599.  You can find a local bradley website on facebook under Natural Childbirth Education of Omaha.  Hope that helps too!  No worries about the doula stuff.  I dont want you to think I am trying to push my services on you!  Just throwing it out there.  We have a website called Nebraska Doulas Association that has info for a couple different doulas and the post partum.  There are also a few other doulas I know that are not on there.  Hope that you like the midwives at UNMC.  I have heard great things about them.  I have a client who is using them due next month.  I am excited to work with them since I only know the midwives at Methodist.  Please feel free to ask me any other questions!
