Did you CD from day one?

I am not sure when to start cloth diapering? I have a pack of pampers swaddlers, but it would only last a few days. I was thinking of starting to CD after the meconium passes (I hear it is a pain to get out of the diapers).  DH wants to start the minute we get home.  (He is likely to do the laundry, by the way).

Anyone have experience to share?

Re: Did you CD from day one?

  • we are using a diaper service for right now (no washer/dryer in our condo) so we started when we got home from the hospital after we used up the sposies we had...i'd say she was about a week old!

  • I did as soon as we got home. We finished off the pack of sposies from the hospital here and there. I didn't have any staining.
  • We used CD from day 5. The meconium had past. ?Unfortunately, he was still healing from his circ, so the vaseline screwed up my diapers and i had to strip them. ?
  • I don't CD, but our DD had passed all her meconium by the time we got home from the hospital. ?She was having regular breast milk stools by about day 3. ?So I would just finish your pack of sposies, and by then DC should be having normal stools and you'll be good to go for CD'ing.
  • we planned on starting as soon as the meconium passed. But DD has such a short rise that all most all of our NB diapers were too high for her cord stump to heal safely, so we had to use sposies until her cord fell off, so she was about 2 weeks old when we switched.

  • We started as soon as the meconium passed. I had the NB trial package from Jillian's Drawers but mostly used prefolds for the first few weeks. The BG 3.0s and KL0s also worked well for us.
