Trying to Get Pregnant

I'm late, pregnancy test is negative

We have been TTC for 5 months after getting off the pill (was taking it for over 10 years) did all the pre-TTC things and got a clean bill of health from the gyn to have fun trying.  After the first month of being off the pill, AF was a few days late but since then has been right on track every month.  I have also been tracking my ovulation.  This month AF didn't come, I have no PMS or cramping, so after 3 days late I took a home pregnancy test and it came up not pregnant.  It's now 5 days later and still nothing.  I was thinking about taking the test again tomorrow morning.   Is this normal?

  • Do you have a chart we can look at?  Maybe you didn't ovulate when you thought you did.

  • Hello :)  I hope you get an answer soon.  How are you tracking your ovulation?  It can take quite a while for your cycles to even out after birth control, even if they do seem normal for a while.
  • What do you mean when you say you were tracking ovulation? Have you been actually charting or using an online calendar?

If you were usuing a calendar where you simply count days, those are not accurate at all, and probably, you've just ovulated a little later than expected.

If you're interested in learning about charting, you can click the ticker in my siggy to get to fertilityfriend.com.

I would test once a week until your period comes or you get a +hpt. If you hit CD60 with no period, call your doctor.

    Good luck!

By tracking do you mean using a worthless ovulation calculator? I thought so.

Test once a week until you get a positive or get to 60 days without a period. Most likely you just ovulated later than normal. It's nothing to get spastic over.

    This.

Try charting. It is wonderful and you can sign up for Fertility Friend (it's free) through any of our charts.

  • How many DPO are you?  As PP said, you can't track O by an Ovulation Calculator online.  Do you chart your temps or use OPKs?

  • I hope this is how I write back to all the responses (thanks by the way, not used to this message board)  The first 2 months I just went by the online calendar predictor (and was told it doens't work at all), then used the chart on pregnology.com (I don't know how to load it on here) that my friends used and all got pregnant within 3 months.  But I will try the fertility website tracker if we are not pregnant.  But I'll test again in the morning. (fingers crossed) Trying not to get my hopes up too much... I know we've only been trying for a bit, but I've never really known how bad I actually wanted to conceive until we made the decision to start trying!  Thank you again and good luck!
  • The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility is also a great resource.  You'll be surprised how much you never knew about your own body.

I'm happy that your friends were able to get pregnant quickly, but this is not a good way to track ovulation.

Readers' Digest version is this: Every cycle is different. If your last cycle was 30 days and you ovulated on CD 17 that does not mean you will always have a 30 day cycle and ovulate on CD17.

Fertility friend will help you learn your body's fertility patterns and will actually confirm ovulation for you.

    Good luck!

  • They actually have a chart, I don't know how to get there online, I have it saved onto my computer and also signed up for countdowntopregnancy.com but I will try the fertility friend first.  Thanks!

  • When people on here are talking about charting, they are talking about taking your basal body temperature (basicially, your temp when you first wake up in the morning), plotting it in a chart, then looking at the pattern to confirm when ovulation occurs.
