Baby monitors...

Hi, ladies, I'm popping over from 2nd tri with a question about baby monitors.  I'm tweaking my registry, and I'm wondering if the Angel Care Deluxe Movement Monitor may be silly?  It has mixed reviews, so I'm not sure what to think.  I'm behind my friends in having babies, so they've all been done with monitors for years.  I want an awesome monitor, but I also know some of these companies prey on new parents and fears of SIDS, so I don't want to be a total sucker either.

What do you think of your movement or video monitors?  Disappointed or impressed with a particular brand?  Please give me your opinions on what you have!   Thanks!

Re: Baby monitors...

  • We have a video monitor my dad gave us. I love it. I don't use it a ton, but it's nice to be upstairs getting out of the shower and being able to see DD downstairs in her PnP by looking at the TV screen.

  • I have the Angelcare Deluxe Movement monitor.  I know it may seem like overkill, but for my own peace of mind...it was worth every penny!  I have a cousin who lost her 3 month old to SIDS so it is something I definitely think about.  I look at it this way-even if the company is preying on my fear of SIDS and the monitor makes no difference, it still works just like any other monitor for sound.  I like having the added safeguard.

That's really how I feel about it, too, but when I read some of the reviews I started to feel like a sucker.  Do you have false alarms?  Do you find the audio monitor to have excessive static?

  • I love having a video monitor! It was definitely worth the splurge.

I have never had a false alarm, however, my sister has the same monitor and she has only because her LO has squirmed to a corner of the crib.  However, the alarm did save her because before my sister realized her LO could move so much, she found her right up against her bumper in the crib.

I do not get any static at all and only get feedback if I carry the parent unit too close to a tv or the nursery unit.

I highly recommend this monitor!  HTH

Thank you, I think I may leave my registry as it is with this.  Thanks to the other posters who responded, as well!

  • We stopped using our regular baby monitor at 7 weeks.  LO makes a lot of noise and fusses/cries in her sleep and it would wake us up even when she didn't need us.  I would get up to get/comfort/feed her when she really was asleep and end up waking her up.  We all sleep better without the baby monitor.  When she is hungry, her cry is loud enough to wake us up without the baby monitor.  Since we used it for such a short time, I can't imagine spending the amount of money a video monitor costs.
  • I could not function without our video monitor (Summer is the brand). It actually makes me LESS neurotic, because I can just glance over to my nightstand and see that LO is still sleeping, still swaddled, and doing fine.. or kicking his legs, wiggling his arms, and getting ready for a meltdown. If I didnt have the video monitor, Im sure Id be paranoid and popping in to check on him all the time. (We also have a main floor master, while his nursery is upstairs, so it's even more essential).

I love ours! LOVE IT! Never had a false alarm...you adjust the sensitivity if you do, so no big deal, and we realized the excessive static is there if there are things plugged into a wall near by...for us it's just our cell phone chargers for some reason...if they are plugged in while the handsets are on there is a ton of static, but if you unplug it the static immediately goes away!

  • I have the Snuza Halo movement monitor. Haven't had one false alarm, but lots of peace of mind. So happy I got it!
  • For us the Angelcare Deluxe monitor was worth every penny for us. DH & I would have gotten even less sleep than what we did if we did not have this monitor.
