or you dont use one? i'm hoping i can bf this time and this might be a stupid question but i didnt bf ds so i have no clue if you can give them a paci or not...
I bf my 1st dd for 13 months, she used a paci & I had no problems at all. My 2nd dd never took a paci but I wish she did b/c she sucks her fingers now.
It took a few weeks for DD to use a paci, but once she did I was soooo grateful for it! She would stay on the breast just to pacify, not really eating....for ever! The paci saved my poor nips!!
With DS, I waited until he was about 4wks old to introduce the plug, as we called it, and then he gave it up on his own at about 5/6mos old. I would try to stick it in, and he'd spit it out. I just didn't force the issue, and we never looked back. I'll do the same thing with DD. Pacifiers are great tools, and we didn't have any trouble with BF'ing and using one with DS (obviously as he still BFs 2x/day).
I offered around 6 weeks (after BF was fully established), but Lily wasn't interested, but she then started sucking her thumb around 3 months, so I think she was just waiting it out.
Lily loves pacis now- she steals from all the babies she knows. LOL
Yes. I used a pacifier from the beginning both time. I didn't introduce a bottle until almost a month though. I wasn't willing to hold out on a pacifier. Jett needed to sooth and I needed to sleep.
I did with both. Never made a real difference. I will say that when DD switched to the Nuk pacifiers, her latch and sucking changed a little but nothing to alter BFing success.
