As I wasnt prepared to have a C-section so I didnt really research it much.. Now im just curious how long does it take before the pain goes away?? I only feel the pain when im getting up or when I first start walking but if I dont keep up on my pain meds it gets pretty bad. Just curious how long this typically last.
Also, what restrictions were you given??? I have only been told to avoid heavy lifting (other then my son) and nothing else yet... Not sure what else is to come.
Thanks
Re: c section momma's ??
I didn't have a planned c-section either. I was told no driving for 2 weeks and no heavy lifting other than LO. I had pretty bad pain for a few weeks, but it turned out I had an infection in my uterus.
Besides lifing, no driving till off the medication, no vacuuming and no exercise till cleared by the doctor. (Taking walks was okay).
I didn't think recovery was that bad. I live on the 4th floor of an apt building with no elevator and was able to do all the stairs 4 days pp.

I'm in the Lansing area too. Did you have your LO at Sparrow?
I was told no stairs, no carrying laundry baskets, no vacuuming. I felt pretty good at the end of two weeks, but still had some pain at the incision. By three weeks I was feeling really good. I was allowed to take DS for walks from discharge on, they encourage it to help prevent clotting.
For me it was no lifting anything heavier that LO, No driving until off the pain medication, and to becareful as to how much activity i would be doing. They said if i notice i am bleeding a lot more, then slow down my activity.
My 3rd day home I thought i was superwoman and started cleaning the house etc, then i had some huge gushes and realized that i better slow things down.
I went back to normal household duties within the first 3 weeks but as far as feeling soreness and actually going back to normal? That took me about 7 weeks and this was my 3rd c-section. I was told not to drive the first 2 weeks and also to avoid heavy lifting. It's a major surgery and you want to get as much rest as you can.
my first c/s was an emergency after 2 days of labor - it took well over two weeks for the pain to go down enough for me not to medicate
this time it was planned. I was sore, but not in pain. I couldn't lift ds1 for 3 weeks.
You're body will let you know when you've over done it - you will usually bleed more on days when you've done too much
Yes I did have him at Sparrow... we are going home tomorrow.
Those sound like reasonable restrictions. I feel pretty good but my DH is very protective and i know he will make sure I dont over do it. : )
Thanks everyone for all the helpful information. I never thought I would need a C-section ... also never thought I would have a 11 lb baby.
