XP: Birthday Party Ideas

(For those that don't venture to the nest)

I'm starting to plan LO's bday party, and need some ideas.  Since most of our friends don't have kids, and the ones that do, the kids are still really young, I need some "fun for everyone" ideas.

-Food and Booze (got to be sneaky about this since it's at a park.... how hard core are they, you think?)

-Bounce House (duh)

And that's all I got.

So, if you were invited to a kids birthday party, and since said kid is super cute and said mom is super awesome, you are crazy over the moon excited to go. What would make it even more exciting?  Go!

Re: XP: Birthday Party Ideas

  • I think you're pretty much covered with good food, booze and music.  Most of our friends are childless, too, and we've treated F's 1st & 2nd like any other party with the addition of a cake for her.
This year we added an art table & sidewalk chalk bin for the kids to keep busy so the adults could hang.  Sounds like the LOs might be too young to enjoy that though.

  • I got LOs of all ages NB-12yrs so I got the sidewalk chalk, avoided the bounce house (because with the age range being so big I dont want the bigger kids taking over and pushing the littler ones around), bubbles, frisbies (sp?), badmitton set, basketball for the court at the park and some cheap remote controled helicopters/cars. I got most of the stuff at Big Lots.

  • At Addie's first birthday we had a balloon artist. She was great and a HUGE hit with the kids! All ages loved her. A bubble machine would be a hit I'd think. We just went to a bday party at Yorba Park in Anaheim and they rented one of those bikes that four ppl pedal and there is a seat in the very front for LO's. We took a 1 1/2 and 2 yr old on it and they did NOT want to get off. We were SO tired but it was a blast. Also, they had a pinata (with candy) and then another will different sizes/colors/types of balls in them. It was a BIG hit too! Gonna have to steal that idea myself! All the kids got a ball and it was fun to see them chasing after them!

  • I have a 14, 12, 2 1/2 and 5 month old and did a bounce house once, and never again...for the reason listed above. Any kid of any size could kick the smaller kids butts in one....

My first thought would be to figure out if you are more trying to please your older friends, or their kids.

My kid at 1 had no idea what was going on, so my plan was more to please the adults - so I had a full bar (alcohol) and a taco bar...as well as pinata and cake and toys for kid....

  • We had a taco guy come (huge hit) and had a ball pit for their 1st instead of a bounce house. Other than that, booze and music pretty much covered it!
  • Before I had DD, I was always excited to see the taco guy at one of my friends' parties.  The kids really seem to enjoy a petting zoo -- I've been to three parties with those.  Not sure you could do that at a park, though.  Honestly, the food, wine and my friends were good enough for me.
  • We had a Taco Guy come out.  Since the kids were actually all about toddler ages I bought this Little Tikes bouncer https://www.amazon.com/Little-Tikes-452H-Bouncer/dp/B000BPEL0Y

  • We just had our son's 3rd birthday party at the park this month.  I have pics posted on his website.

We had kids from all ages at our party, so we just did sporty stuff.  Played tug-o-war (bought rope at walmart for $11), relay races, softball, red light-green light race, hot potato and sack races (got the sacks on oriental trading co online).

     Hope this helps.

  • we did a taco guy too. We've used several, but I have one that is good pricing and good. I'll look for the contact info and will send it to you.

like  goldengrace mentioned, we also did a ballpit for T's 1st birthday. This was kept indoors for the little ones.

We also had a bouncer for the older kids.
