I suck at "playing"

I love hanging out with DS but I feel like I suck at "playing" with him. I like to talk with him, hold him, sing with him etc. but we don't really "play" with things. I am always awkward with little kids when they want to pretend or whatever. What's also hard is DS is really good at just entertaining himself with toys so a lot of times he just plays by himself. That makes me feel bad. :::sigh::: I hope I get better at this!

Re: I suck at "playing"

  • DS also does well playing by himself but I've found building block towers and having him knock them over always gets giggles out of him and I.  You just need to find one activity and go from there.  :)

  • I feel the same way. I'm sure it gets better with age. When they can start talking and really "pretending" I think it'll be more fun.
  • Oh, try not to let this bother you. You're helping him develop his independent play. That's a skill you know? And an important one too! If it's a strong skill of his, you'll love it soon enough.

Some times when I'm playing with DD she gets "annoyed" and starts to cry, I leave her alone and she's happy again.

It takes many different kinds of parents to make the world go round.

  • Thanks ladies. There's always something to worry about not being good enough at when you are a mommy!
