Babies: 0 - 3 Months

nursery water

i've been using this to mix with my 3 1/2 wk old's formula that we're supplementing with.  i just read that babies under 6 months shouldn't have flouride and the bottle says 'flouride added'.  should i not be using this?

can i use water out of the brita? thanks.

Re: nursery water

  • This is totally not going to answer your question but I have to confess your newborn pics are my favorite! So beautiful. The colors are amazing and with that dark hair it is just perfection! Thanks for sharing!

ugh...i'll ask the pedi. baby 411 says no flouride for babies before 6 months, but they need flouride after 6 months.

  • We use distilled water because it goes through the same process, but doesn't have minerals added for taste and it doesn't have flouride. We don't use formula, but we use this when preparing his reflux medicine.

  • too much fluoride exposure will make your LO have spots on their adult teeth, I would use something without fluoride added until after 6 mos.

Since you're only supplementing with it, I doubt her fluoride levels would get too high though.

  • I'm BFing, but personally I'd use tap water.  My freshman year of college I was majoring in environmental studies and heard all the gross stories of bottled water  not being as clean as tap water since they are regulated by different agencies.
  • I was using nursery water in the beginning but have switched to filtered from our fridge.

She didn't have any problems with it.

  • I boil DS's water for 20 minutes and then put it into the Nursery Water container (for storage.)

Pedi said no fluoride needed until the first tooth comes in, and at that point, he'll give me drops.  I would not use tap water.
