I had to AW b/c I am NOT a seamstress and I had no idea what I was doing but I was still able to make a super cute long tunic/short dress AND a cute pair of yoga pants and it was pretty easy for a novice like myself! Thanks to DH's nice collection of old t-shirts, DD now has these 2 gems plus 2 other dresses (a solid red and a solid yellow) and I'm working on a burnt orange one.
The cool thing about the dresses is that she can wear them forever - as a dress now, as a tunic later, and even in the winter over a turtle neck or long sleeved shirt - and the straps are tie-back - so she could feasibly wear these things for YEARS. Plus they're super soft!

Here is the link to the tutorial that I used for the pants:

FWIW, DD is pretty tall for her age, but my DH's XL tshirts were juuuust long enough (from the armpit to the bottom) for DD's leg length.after all my inexperienced seaming.
So MC/Fjaril - you may need a larger size than XL to get pants long enough to fit your guys- then again, if you are good at sewing to begin with, you could probably make a XL work.
And MC- it's pretty easy. I must admit though, my first practice pair had one leg longer than the other and I have no idea how that happened. It was a good laugh though. So I suggest using a cruddy t-shirt to practice on first just in case - unless, again, you're experienced w/ this stuff.
**and for anyone that wants it- here is the tutorial for the dress -

I made the straps variations of different ties though - b/c DD has a huge head and a pre-made neck strap would never work for her.
