Anyone's DC scared of sand?

We were planning on getting DD a sandbox for her birthday, but I put her in some sand (sand volleyball court) the other day and she FREAKED!!!!

Is this normal? How can I help get her to like it?  She was like this with snow and grass too.

    DD hated the sand last year when we went to the beach.  Wouldn't put one foot in it, and would freak out if we tried to put her down.  We were at a neighbors today and they just got a sandbox.  DD was all over it, sitting in it, and digging.  Yay!  Hopefully your DD will get used to it.  Maybe show her how you  can dig, and put sand in a bucket, or bury a sand toy.

    Bella hated the sand when she was about a year.  We continued to take her to the beach and park and she just eventually got use to it.  I agree with pp, and show her how much fun you can have playing in the sand with toys.

    Sensory-related stuff like this is more common than people think..   we noticed it w/DS early on and really focused on getting him 'desensitized' so to speak. We exposed him to MANY textures/messy play. etc. Sensory issues really do have to be addressed, from what I've read and the occupational therapist girlfriends I have, they don't get better with time or age. They just get very used to not liking certain textures and their determination to not touch it is set!

    YES!! Terrified! Click on my blog (siggy) and it's the top post. We went to the beach and he was freaking out, but he got over it after a few minutes.

    Both the girls freaked out about the sand at the beach at about 1.5-2 years.  DD#2 really didn't like it at Mom's a few weeks ago and we used to have to carry DD#1 over it to the hard sand by the water (but not in the water b/c that sand moved) at that age.  They grow out of it.  It's a weird sensation when they're walking on it...
