3rd Trimester

My birth story with PIP!

We are finally home, so I can finally post my birth story!  Warning, it will probably be long!

Last Saturday I started to have minor contractions that were irregular and not painful at all, but I was excited at the thought that our LO might be arriving soon!  Since I was already past due (EDD was 4/9/10) I was hoping that the contractions would pick up so that I could go to the hospital.  Sunday was when they became a bit uncomfortable, but were still irregular.  Later that evening, they did become more regular and so I thought we should make a trip to L&D to see if I was making any progress since my last appointment (I was only 1 cm at my last appt.)

So we get to L&D and they hook me up to the monitor to start tracking my contractions, but as it turns out they were not productive contractions and I was just having false labor.  I was discharged and told to come back if the contractions were much stronger and closer together.

Monday morning was when my contractions began to really pick and became really painful.  We started timing them, but they were still about 7-9 minutes apart.  I was so upset, figuring I'd have to go through this pain and not even get anywhere.  I was getting no sleep, because they were so painful and close together.  By that evening, they had picked up to 4-5 minutes apart for 2 hours so we finally decided to go back into L&D at 11:30 PM.

Once there, they hooked my up again and after that, everything happened so fast it felt like a blur!  The contractions were coming every 2 minutes at that time and I was 3 cm, so I was able to be admitted and my Doctor allowed me to get my epidural.  I was so relieved to have the epidural and get some rest!!  Once I had gotten the epidural, around 3 AM, my contractions slowed down, so they started me on Pitocin.  Around  8 AM, my water broke and I was about 9 cm.  I was able to push that last cm open and then start the whole pushing process.  I started pushing around 11:30 AM and pushed for 3 hours! Lucas was sunny side up , so all of my labor pains were in my back.  He made his debut at 1:53 PM, weighing in at 7 lbs and 4.5 oz and was 20 inches long.

He is absolutely amazing and I am head over heels in love with him!! Breastfeeding hasn't been too bad, he's a quick learner!!  I'm so glad to finally be home with him and start our beautiful life together!
