Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Two questions: Lead levels test and nursing bras (if you nursed 1+year)

1) How much blood do they take for the lead level test? My doc wants us to get it (we live in an old apartment) but my DH is taking him. He wants to know what he is in for.

2) Did you hold on to your nursing bras/tanks for the next baby, or do you plan on buying new ones next time? I nursed for exactly a year so they are all well-loved. I hate getting rid of stuff but I am OK with buying new stuff next time for comfort.

  • When I worked in WIC, we just did it with the finger poke that we were already doing for hemoglobin--so just enough to fill a little vile thing. Some Doctor's offices do it venous though (that's how DS's was done at his 1 yr)

  • question #2 I kept them. I also have a thing about keeping things "in case" we decide to have another baby. I nursed for 14 months. I did only pay $10 from target so i could always just get some more

  • I have no clue about question #1, but for question #2 I am keeping mine. They are comfortable and still in great condition.

  • 1) I think DD had a lead test, and I think it was just a prick from the foot.  But I could be imagining that.  :)

    2) I never found a nursing bra that was comfortable, so I just wore cheap, regular bras in a bigger size.  I did save them, but they're also pretty well worn, so I don't know if I'll use them.

    3) I know there's no third question, but you've got me thinking...  I can't believe how big my breasts got while breastfeeding.  I went from barely an A cup to just about a D cup.  When I stopped nursing I went down to an A minus.  :(  Sad.  :(  I seriously don't even need a training bra anymore.

  • 1. My dr ordered a blood draw from the vein for some reason..and it was hell. I felt so sorry for dd. I will not do that again. A finger stick I am okay with, but that was an awful experience. She screamed at my dr appts and hers for the next few months she was so tramatized.

    2. Keep them. Then you can buy more if needed, but I really liked the nursing tanks from target that were super comfy.

    1.  The initial test was a toe prick.  When that came back low they took FOUR vials it was horrible.

    2.  I just weaned and am waiting to completely deflate to get new bras.  Most of mine are in pretty bad shape so I probably won't keep them.  We're also leaning more toward one and done....

  • 1. Initial test was a toe prick. He was fine so no further tests needed

    2. I tossed all mine after our last nursing session, they were a little ragged! I still sleep in the nursing sleep bras though, they are pretty comfy.

  • Lead levels--no idea

Bras--I'm keeping them, especially the nursing tanks! I hated some of my nursing bras so I'd like to find a few new ones that I hope will work better, but I'll keep the ones I liked.

    1. Finger prick - he was pretty pissed but got over it when his attention turned to figuring out how to get the bandaid off

    2. I only pumped 6mos but I think if we do this again I'm getting new bras. I am hanging onto the old ones for now, though, just in case.
