Were you told that you have to have a repeat c/s? Anyone getting the okay to try a VBAC? I'm still grieving the pregnancy and of course Aidan, but as my due date gets closer I'm grieving the loss of ever having a vaginal birth.
I had a c/s with Evan. They had to due a verticle incision, so if/when we have another it will have to be ceserean as well. Right now I'm ok with that, I felt like I had to grieve it for a long time. Who knows, it may bother me again in the future.
stella was born via c-section at 28 weeks, 3 days to be exact. i never asked about a VBAC (was too shocked when my Dr. said he thought it would be OK if I was pregnant again at some point). i did talk to my mom about it (she's a maternity nurse & has been for like 35 years) & she said that as long as something structural (i.e. too big baby, too narrow hips) was not the cause for the problem, then Dr.s will usually let you try a VBAC. hang in there.
Ditto witt - I had a vertical incision, so I'd have to have a c/s again. I don't foresee ever being pregnant again, but I wouldn't be able to deliver VBAC if I were.
I think it depends on the doctor and how much space is put in between the pregnancies. My doctor told me that since I delivered at 32 weeks and my uterus was smaller that the incision covered more of the uterus than it would have at full-term. My internal incision is vertical though so I don't know if that would be true for a transverse incision, too. Hang in there, I hope you get your VBAC with Aidan's little brother or sister.
i have to have another section if i get pregnant again. i was 27w4d, but she had IUGR so she was on the small side. they said the uterus was too small and they had to do a vertical. i am also periodically upset by this... not only have i had a few bad experiences with childbearing, but now i can't even hope for a "regular" birth in the future.
I'm about 10 weeks PG now and I just had this talk with my dr. He said that as of now, everything is looking good for a VBAC. They did the right kind of incision--I forget which it is. He said that if I end up with pre-e again though they may have to do another section. But I hear you. I was and still am so sad that I never even made it close enough to the end to be in labor.
I had what started out as a standard c/s but then because Evan was so tiny and stuck up under my ribs the Dr had to do an inverted T incision to my uterus to get to him and pull him out by his shoulder. He told me that any time you make an upward or vertical incision to the uterus the structure of the uterus is too unstable to allow a VBAC because the way that the muscle contract during labor can rip the organ and that would be dangerous for both me and the baby.
I too had an inverted T incision. She was a tiny girl & transverse so they had trouble getting her out. I was told to be prepared that it may happen before surgery. Then the doctor came to tell me no VBAC while I was in recovery.
I had a c-section at 29w, 6d, and was told by my doc that since they did a horizontal incision I would be a candidate for a VBAC next time around. I also didnt have any major uterus complications prior to my section (I had a minor placental abruption that caused me to hemorrhage and caused my water to break, which is why I delivered so early), and LO was already head down, so it was a routine c-section, which helped matters. I have already had my 2 week checkup and will go for my 6 week checkup on April 26th, but so far, I am considered a good candidate for a VBAC.
