Anyone buying one? has anyone used one before? love it..hate it? absolute must have?? im torn. i didnt have one with my son, they werent popular or even out i think, but now i hear tons of great reviews about them, but they are so darn expensive and im a thrifty person. i found a used one in good condition on Kijiji for $40 with the tray..im thinking about spending the money and doing it, i can always re sell it..
tell me your bumbo stories ladies.. who's got one and who's getting one.
Re: Bumbo's
My mummie friends LOVE theirs.
But? Don't spend $40 on it! Look on Freecycle.org, or Craigslist. Or Goodwill..stuff like that.
It's made of a material that's really easy to disinfect, so I wouldn't be too worried about getting it second-hand...just make sure there are no holes in it or that it doesn't like it's "stretching" anywhere...
Check your local Baby Depot, Marshalls, TJMaxx, etc...
We have one and we really like it. It's very handy for going to friends/family house and just having another place to put little one to play. Very handy with the tray for meal times at other places other than home.
Is definitely doable to do without, though. We didn't have one with baby #1. But, I can't deny it's handiness:)
eta: my three and half year old has fun sitting in it, too. I have small girls', though!
Honestly? I classify the Bumpo as one of the biggest wastes of money (for us). $40 for a used one, even with a tray, is way too much...
I may not even pull it out again. But I am sure that others will disagree!

I started using mine with DS when he was about 5 weeks old (he had good head control from birth and I just tucked a receiving blanket around him to help keep him in place). I don't know if i can sing it's praises enough...
We used it to put baby in when he was awake at our mealtime. Just set him in the Bumbo on the table so that he could participate in family dinner with us.
We used it to help him be involved all the time at home. Like a lot of babies DS didn't love tummy time, but he loved his Bumbo, so we would do both. A little bit of tummy time and a bunch of Bumbo time (sitting under his play mat toys playing with them from his chair).
We used it as an easy portable chair, took it with us to restaurants (it fits inside some high chairs, but mostly we just sat him on the table like at home). We also loved to have it when we went to see kid free friends. It gave baby a place to be that wasn't lying in a carseat (my kid has always been wicked curious and wouldn't have sitting around in a carseat when he could be in the middle of the action).
We even used it to help DS sit up in the bath. This is not it's recommended use, but we would sit him in the Bumbo in the shower while we washed, then get him out, wash him up and get out of the shower. Worked great for us and since we were always with him in it we weren't concerned.
I will be purchasing TWO more of them for this baby. One for the house (we already have) and one to keep in each car so we are never without it.
ETA: We used ours until DS was close to 9 months old!
Don't pay full price. Those things are everywhere at rummage sales and craigslist...
We have the Pod chair, which is the same although I don't think they make trays for them ???? I loved having it for each girl. It's nice to give them a new view other than laying on the ground or being so stimulated in the saucer or jumper. I also used it when we first started solids rather than putting them in the big high chair seat.
I like the Pod better because it's got a smooth surface which wipes clean easier than the bumpy bumbo. I have a friend who has a hand me down bumbo and it looks really dirty. ???
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works wonders cleaning the Bumbo, just FYI.
I saw this and thought it was a great idea. Works like a bumbo, but has uses after the child can sit up.
The Bumbo is $40 new and the tray is $11. I think $40 for the whole set used is a bit much, definitely look other places, I have seen them on craigslist for $5-$10.
I bought one on ebay for my son....we used it maybe a total of three times! I don't know if it is due to the fact that he is a complete monkey or what but he would knock the tray off and end up sideways about to fall out. He can't sit still anyways, but it just seems like there is a very small window of time you would even be able to use it and maybe only for a month or two.
I resold it on ebay about a month ago, knowing we probably wouldn't use it much for the next baby and it would just take up space.
DS LOVED it and he used it for a long time too. We bought one off of our local version of Craig's List, but we had to get pink. I didn't care...we paid $15 for it.
This exactly. I have the Summer Infant Super Seat and love it. W loved the activity tray when he was just learning to sit up, and now we use it as a booster in the dining room. I feel like it's much more versatile than the Bumbo...and as pp said, if your LO has chunky legs, you won't be able to use the Bumbo for long at all. DS has chunky legs, so we were able to take out the insert in this seat and keep on using it.
DS never liked it. His little legs were fat and he hard tome fitting into it. Plus, he crawled at 6 mos and didn't want to be in it for a second once he was mobile.
I'm hoping #2 will like it more than he did.
I don't think I'd spend $40 on a used one. I agree with a PP and look on Craigslist or Freecycle.

Personally if I had it to do again I would have never bought it. It is almost a novelty. It was used three times and the baby outgrew it so fast. I still have the tray in the box. I took a few pictures with him in it....but that is about it. Just wanted an unmoving place to snap a good pic and that is about the best use I ever got from it. I did hear of a few moms using it for bathtime in the tub even though it is not recommended and I never tried it.
