Babies: 3 - 6 Months

for those who bring LO to bed with them and BF

when you sleep with LO do you feel like they nurse more frequently?

I feel like we wake up more frequently, but I just latch him on and go back to sleep so it's not a big deal.

My son really has no schedule, and I'm starting to feel bad about it. I allow him to nurse any time, and he'll refuse if he doesn't want to. At night he almost always wants to nurse, even if he just sucks for a minute or so, and I feel bad because I know he doesn't really *need* it.

How about you ladies?

  • She doesn't sleep with me, but next to me.  She still wakes up 2-3 times a night to eat even though I know she can STTN.  I don't refuse and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.  If I want a sip of water or a midnight snack I go and get one.  I figure it's the same for DD.

  • Don't feel bad. He is being a baby. I hardly eat on a "schedule" and enjoy a nibble here and there, I wouldn't expect my LO to be any different.

  • I don't sleep with DS but he wakes up a few times at night to nurse although I think he doesn't really "need" it. I do bring him into bed to side lying nurse but I never fall alseep during that time it is just more relaxing. I put him back in his crib when we are done. I wouldn't worry about nursing him several times a night now it may only be hard to break the "suck/ sleep" association later on!
  • We co-sleep and I pretty much let him nurse whenever he wants.  However, I have recently started waiting longer to offer him the breast because I've noticed that a lot of the times he wakes up, he isn't looking to nurse and goes back to sleep pretty quickly.
