IUI and Exercise

Hey Ladies,

Would you go for a 3 mile run directly after your IUI?  My DH is on a charity board and there is a 5K fundraiser tomorrow for that charity.  Of course, my IUI#4 was just scheduled for tomorrow morning, and of course, I have 6 out-of-towners coming to my house to participate in this 5k.

I'd have to jump off the table and go right to the starting line but I could make it.  WWYD?

Also, no one really knows about our IF so how the heck do I explain the fact that DH and I need to be somewhere at 715 tomorrow morning and that the they're on their own for breakfast and need to figure out how to get to the race on their own.

The logistics of this are insane!

Re: IUI and Exercise

  • I wouldnt run, I would try to take it as easy as possible.

Does your doctor think it would be okay for you to do that, I guess that would be the first person I asked.

I wouldnt worry about what other people think, you dont have to tell them anything you dont want to. Just say hey we have somewhere important to be. They should understand.

  • The nurse who helped my RE with my last IUI said I could "swim, do aerobics, whatever" right after IUI, but I personally would not go run a 5k.  I know it might not make a difference, but I would feel better just putting my feet up afterwards.

  • Oh, and just tell them you have a Dr. appointment.  If they pry for more info, they're just rude.

    This exactly.

  • I know it really is all so crazy. It's so hard to explain sometimes and they always fall on the days you have plans. Personally, I would not do it. I'd just tell them I was having a medical "procedure" and leave it at that. That would explain why you could not drive them and not participate in the race. GL!

  • I was told that to take the day of IUI off from working out but could resume workouts after that.

Can you not tell them about the appointment and fake being sick with a stomach bug? That will get you to be able to go to the appointment and get you out of the race.

  • My RE says I can resume normal activity right away. So if running a 5K isn't out of the norm I would probably go. I run throughout my 2WW but I am a runner so it's not a big deal to me. But I'm in the camp that believes that you can't shake a viable pregnancy with exercise or a glass of wine, etc. If you won't feel guilty or worry about it I would go. If you think you'll worry about it later just say you aren't feeling well and skip it.

  • Thanks, Ladies.  I thkn I'm going to run it.  I'm a runner and a 5K will be a short run for me.  It's for a charity fundraiser so the good karma generated from being altruistic should cancel out all the bad things things that could happen, right?  :)

  • I have done it before and all was fine. It doesn't jiggle out of you. By the time your IUI was done and you got to the race any sperm that was going to make it up the tube and to the right spot will have done so already. Otherwise anyone that exercises would never get pregnant :)
