High-Risk Pregnancy

XP: High/low amniotic fluid levels

Two weeks ago my afi was low, 6.3. My OB had me admitted overnight for hydration and they came up to 8ish. The next 2 checks were around 11, but yesterday it was 23! They had me repeat my 1 hour glucose (still waiting for results). I am so confused! I am worried about problems with the baby. Anyone else have any experience with this? I have BPP's and NST's every Mon and Thurs.

Re: XP: High/low amniotic fluid levels

  • i would like to hear about others with low fluids as well. Just found out yesterday if mine get any lower i'll have to go to the hospital.

I'm on bedrest and instructed to drink lots of fluids until my next appt.

  • At my 38w u/s mine was at 5.8 and they induced me later that night! But I was due to be induced within the next week due to homo. MTHFR. If I wasn't high risk to begin with 1) I would have never even had the 38w u/s and 2)they may have let me go with just daily monitoring

  • My AFI was 3.5 on Tues.  They rechecked today and it was 18.  I chugged so much water since Tues. I really think it depends on how well they look for pockets of fluid.  Some techs just go to all 4 quadrants and take any pic.  Some actually look for pockets and measure those.  Keep us updated and good luck!

We had a low fluid scare w/ lily @ 30w I was hospitalized w/ A kidney infection at the time. It turned out the tech had mis-calculated. She had me  5 @ 6pm the the following afternoon @ 1pm it was 21. The perinatologist there was no way it went up that quick even with IV fluid.

This time we have the opposite problem i have high fluid i have already had three pints drained off. I went from 21 a month ago to 29 two weeks ago to 33 last tuesday when they did the procedure. I go back monday for another check. There are a number reasons for mine i have GD, LO has a heart condition & Stomach issues that can lead to high fluid.

    Good luck.
