Duggar related: what do yall think?

https://tv.msn.com/mom-pop-culture/what-the-duggars-are-doing-wrong/story/feature/?GT1=28137

I think this mom has some really good points as a mother of a fellow preemie. What are yall's thoughts?

Personally, I wonder if the Duggars can have another child, considering the pre-e that led to their early delivery.

Re: Duggar related: what do yall think?

  • I think the mom writing the article does make some good points.  However, I don't feel like I can criticize the Duggars.  Yes, they have a large family, but all of their kids are well fed, clothed, well adjusted, well loved, educated (although not to the same standards I want my children educated), and they are all very well behaved.  Add that to the fact that they live a Godly life debt free and I really admire them.  I only hope to have my family with one child run as efficiently as she runs her family of 19 children!  All in all, do I think they're perfect?  No.  Do I think they're doing a better job than most?  Yes.

  • I hope that Josie's premature birth is taken as a sign from above to STOP.  I think they are doing a really good job - but they are still exploiting their family and enough is enough
  • I'm torn on my feelings about this family.  On one hand, I agree with Sarah in saying that the birth of the preemie is a sign to be happy to have 19 healthy kids and not push the boundaries of trying to have another child.

However, on the other hand the kids they have are well behaved, fed and cared for, as another poster pointed out.

My only thing with this is the fact that the older kids have to assume a "parent/buddy" role to the younger siblings, which might cut out on there time being kids.  They might grow up feeling resentful of there upbringing and having so many siblings.  Also, the lack of time that the family spends with each child has to be short considering they have 19 kids to go around.

  • My $.02...all the comments (here and elsewhere) that Josie's premature birth is a sign that they shouldn't have anymore kids (regardless of how many they presently have) are INCREDIBLY hurtful to a preemie mom like me.  It implies that prematurity is somehow a punishment...that it's somehow my own fault.  And that's more hurtful than you could ever imagine.

  • kkh - I really didn't mean any harm by that at all... I just think they have been really really blessed being able to have 18 healthy, full term children - I think that #19 being born prematurely due to her pre-eclampsia is just a sign that HER body is not healthy enough to endure more pregnancies.

I'm REALLY sorry if my comment offended you - i KNOW that premature birth is not a PUNISHMENT at all - in M. Duggars case, I think it's just a sign that her body can't do it any more.

  • Kristi,

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to target you or make you feel that way whatsoever.

I was wondering if, because of Michelle Duggar's situation, if she physically can give birth to more because of the pre-e that was involved. Just because a child is born prematurely it is by no means meant to be a punishment to the parents or anything against the mother.

  • I don't see it as they are "exploiting" their family. The way I see it, by showing their day-to-day life on camera, they are sharing their faith with others as well as showing Americans how a godly household should be run. I admire the Duggars for being 100% sold out to God; so much that they would trust their child-bearing to be put completely in God's hands. Do we as Christians trust God that much? Probably not.
