Cat Nappers

Anyone have one? My LOs take depressingly short naps :(

DS is a catnapper. I've tried everything.

    How short is "short?"

DD is about a 40 minute napper.  You can almost set a clock by her.  And now she's trying to give up her morning nap, and will only sleep if I take her for a walk in her stroller.  (Read:  no downtime for me.)  Good times!

    Hang in there.

  • (I'm about 1 week early posting over here, but--) We do!  He's a terrible napper.  It's frustrating, but we're working on it.

  • I had a catnapper from about 3 months... then magically, at 8 months, she finally started sleeping longer.  They say the longer naps kick in around 4 months, but I guess it just takes others longer.  If you're doing everything right (paying attention to sleeping cues, on a schedule, doing a routine, etc.) then there's really nothing else you can do.  Be patient - it'll happen!

  • ky used to take like four 30 minute naps a day. but that was when i didn't put him down for a nap until the eye rubbing started. now i put him down based on how long he's been up and he sleeps for an hour and 20 minutes at a time.
  • They usually only last about 2 hours awake until they start to peter out. So I put them down and they sleep MAYBE 45 minutes. Sometimes I luck out. If I put them in their crib (as opposed to swing) it is even shorter. The naps where they take opposite naps are the worst!

  • yes it got better, now it has gotten worse again.  he takes like 2 twenty min. naps a day!  and it's not that he's not tired.  If i hold him or he sleeps in the car or stroller he'll sleep longer than that.  i don't know what to do.  right now i rock him to sleep for naps and then put him down.  i think i am going to try CIO for naps soon.
  • I have 2. And they rarely do it at the same time.

  • DD was a consistent 29 minute napper until she was 7 months old.  I tried everything in every book and nothing would make her sleep longer.  She'd sleep frequently and go down drowsy but awake but she would. not. stay. asleep.
Then, one day, her morning nap stretched out to two hours.  And stayed there.   And another day, shortly after that, her afternoon nap stretched out to 1 1/2 hours, and stayed there.

I wish I could take credit, but I think it was just time that did the trick.

It was exhausting when she was sleeping for short stretches though.
