Does anyone have a pediatrician recommendation for the roxborough, philly area?

Re: Ped Rec in Roxborough, Philly area?

  • Have you asked your OB for recommendations based on the hospital you are going to deliver at?  At my first prenatal appt. I got a packet and it had a list of recommended peds.  I actually have an appt. with Kids First of Roxborough on Umbria Street with Dr. Rolnick.  I tried to do some research online to see what different patients said about the Dr.'s there and it seemed pretty positive.  I will let you know how it goes, but I would definitely set up a consultation meeting with some Dr.'s before choosing.

  • I just wanted to update you on my visit to Kids First of Roxborough this afternoon.  I met with Dr. Barbara Rolnick and she seemed very nice and answered any and all questions I had.  The practice consists of 5 women doctors and they are affiliated with CHOP.  When you go for a consultation they will give you bio's on all doctors and info on their after hours program.  Basically if something is wrong with your child after hours, you call the office and they transfer that call to CHOP.  You will talk with the nurses at CHOP and they will decide whether the doctor needs to be called, you need to go to the emergency room or if your child has something that can wait till morning.  They have privileges at Bryn Mawr and Lankeneau hospitals so they will check your child out the morning after he/she is born (they do their rounds around 8 or 9 am) and will see them every day they are in the hospital.  Office hours are M-Th 8:30am-8pm, Friday 8:30am-5pm, Saturday 9am-12 noon (mostly sick appts, not check-ups) and Sunday for emergency only.  They have a seperate waiting room for sick children, so those kids won't infect others.  They also have a laboratory on site, but generally do not take blood...they will send you to Quest or LabCorp for this.  They generally try to have you see the same person every time, but if your child is sick you will see whomever is available first.  If you decide you like that doctor better then yours, you can always switch.  They support breastfeeding, but understand that it is a personal choice and you need to do what is best and most comfortable for you.  They feel that pacifier use is a necessity for some children, but suggest that you do not use one for at least the first week after birth so that your child does not get confused about the feeding process (especially if you plan to breastfeed).  They follow the American Academy of Pediatrics for the recommended visits over the first year....I believe it is 1 week, 2 weeks, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months.

I hope that wasn't too much for you.  Just thought I would pass along all the information that I obtained during my visit.

     Good luck!!!

  • Iraley, thank you so so so much for this information! It wasn't too much at all. I think I'm going to schedule a consultation! It's basically right around the corner from us, so this would be perfect! I really like that they have a sick waiting room for the sick kids. It makes a difference!

Thanks again for everything, this was so helpful!

  • Scheduled a consultation for next week! Thanks again!
  • I am glad I could help.
