Big-boobed BFers: How do you exercise?

I'm currently an H cup.  I've also had a horrible time w/mastitis & repeatedly plugged ducts.  I'm almost afraid to try working-out because I don't want to pinch a duct from either bouncing too hard or from wearing a confining or ill-fitting sports bra.

I wear the Bravado double-plus nursing bras, which are o.k. around the house, but really don't offer much support.

WDYD?

Re: Big-boobed BFers: How do you exercise?

  • Not big boobed- but excercise does not mean you have to jog- you can do tons of other things - yoga, weight lifting, swimming, walking, stationary bicycle...   I don't know if you just want to get more active- or if this is a part of a weight loss plan- but my best weight loss happened when I started lifting weights- and not the pink ones.  (I do think your concerns about the sports bras and mastitis are valid though)

  • I've been wearing 2 bras when I run. It's not the best solution but it works. I wear a nursing bra with a regular sports bra over it. Neither are super supportive on their own but together they do a good job.
  • I'm an F cup. I wear a good nursing bra + a nursing tank over top of it for extra support. I dont run though. I hate running and its just uncomfortable. I also try to work out right after I nurse so that my boobs arent as full.

I'm an E cup.  I went running for the first time in almost a year the other day.  It was so uncomfortable.  I wore two bras, a nursing bra and a sports bra, and it was still not enough.  I was bouncing and flopping all over the place.  I'm thinking of wearing 3 the next time, and if it's not any better I'm just going to stick to walking and yoga for now.

  • Even before I breastfed, I had trouble finding a good workout bra that offered enough support.  I (and Oprah!) recommend the Enell bra.  I saw it on Oprah several years ago and so far, it is the only sports bra that I have found that is worth a darn.  When I started working out again after DS when born, I just purchased a size up to accommodate my change in cup size.  FWIW, I use it for jogging and elliptical.  HTH!

You need a good sports bra.  You shouldn't need to wear 3-4 bras/tanks/whatever to get support.  They are expensive, but they do the trick.  Moving Comfort has some, Enell as a pp mentioned, and some others...try Title Sports as well.  They have a sports bra called Last Resort, but I am not sure what size it goes up to.

Also - pump before and after exercise...I found this one out the HARD (literally!) way.  I got super engorged several days once I started back to working out.
