2nd Trimester

Anyone else delivering at Kaiser?

I am 25 weeks and randomly asked my high risk doctor today, (whom I've been seeing every 2 weeks since the beginning.)

"Have you delivered any babies today?" she replies. "I don't work in Labor and Delivery anymore."

WHAT?????????

She said that I would just have the Doctor that preformed c-sections or induced labor that were scheduled that day!!!

I am so upset! What's the point? Why am I seeing my high risk doctor, and having some stranger deliver my baby???

Help!Super Angry

  • I had Kaiser with my last baby and that's how it worked.  I live in a completely different state and have a PPO now (so nothing like Kaiser) and that is still how it works.  The on call doctors deliver your baby, I think it's pretty rare that "your" doctor delivers your baby these days unless you have a scheduled c-section or a scheduled induction, or happen to get lucky.

  • DANG! So sorry, that is absolutely awful for them to do that. Especially if he wasn't going to tell you. So that you would just show up to deliver your baby and find out then. If you want to switch doctors (which is stinky all on its own) now is the time because a lot of doctors don't take patients after 32 weeks.

And you could probably get away with hitting your doc due to "temporary insanity" due to pregnancy. If that makes you feel any better. Hope all works out. Hugs!

  • First, congrats to 25 weeks -- we have the same due date.  :)

Second, I too am delivering at Kaiser.  It's pretty disconcerting to know that the person who has gotten to know you and your baby's health won't exist anymore when it comes time to deliver!  It just feels really impersonal to me.  It also seems silly that we "select" our doctors at Kaiser, but really we're only selecting them for pre-natal care, and it stops short of delivery!

  • I'm delivering at Kaiser too and when I heard that I was thrown off.  What's the point of picking my doctor if it stops by the time I go to give birth! Makes no sense, but I have loved the pre-natal care I've been recieving!!!

  • Thanks everyone for the feedback. I am actually looking into changing insurance I am so bummed about this. Who knows if its possible. I just don't get it. I have no comfort in knowing I may have a c-section this time, my 1st was vaginal, and I won't know the doctor cutting me open?????

    Bizarre, to say the least.Ick!

  • Great day to have a baby!!! Congrats to your 25 weeks!

Did you already know that your Doctor won't deliver the baby?

I just wondered if anyone's Doctor previously shared this info.

If I didn't outright ask her. I would have shown up for my c-section clueless to this info.

    So p-o'd.....
