TTC after 35

Update on IVF #2

Well, I am not responding well at all this time. I only have 3 follicles that look like they would be mature at ER. My RE will move forward, but DH and I do not want to go through with IVF.  I think the chances are just too slim with such a small number of follicles.  Although the ER isn't terrible, it is surgery and I don't want to do put myself through it.  So, we are converting to IUI.

I know the IUI will not work, and I am not sure what happens next.  We had planned to move on to DE if this IVF didn't work.  Since it didn't actually happen, I'm not sure if we will try with my own eggs again or go ahead and move on to DE at this point.

I am so sick and tired of thinking about all this.  If you don't see me around, nothing happened to me, I just want to focus on other parts of my life right now. I want to focus on everything I DO have in my life, rather than what I don't.  Thanks for all your support!

Re: Update on IVF #2

  • I'm sorry.
    I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

    I hope, hope, hope the IUI works.

    My best friend has a daughter and twin son & daughter all three from DE (the same donor).  If you ever want to hear their story (it is wonderful) please feel free to PM me.

    Hang in there.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your IVF not happening. Don't give up hope, who knows, maybe this will be your miracle IUI. Take the time you need to NOT think about all of this, sometimes you just need a time out from it. Know that we are here for you and you are in our thoughts. GL

  • I don't know if you've totally made up your mind to convert it to IUI or not but I wanted to let you know that both my pregnancies came out of situations where I only had 3 follicles.  They got 6 and 7 mature eggs out of them - 3 and 4 fertilized each time and 1 took each time.  If you're thinking about using DE's, then maybe you've discussed other issues like quality of the eggs, but if your decision is based solely on the number of follicles, I just wanted to give you some hope IVF can work.

    Either way, good luck with your decision and I hope IUI works.

  • Oh holly honey, I am so sorry :(

    It just ticks me off to no end that your ute is not behaving.

    Enormous (((hugs)) to you. I'd give your ute the finger, but I want to be nice to it and encouraging the IUI to WORK!

  • Oh Holly, I'm so sorry. I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope that this IUI works for you. Take care of yourself and you know we will be here for you when you come back/ pop in.

  • I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I can understand your frustration but also wanted to give a little hope like pp did. We had DD #1 with our first ever IVF. With that cycle I only had 5 eggs. All 5 fertilized but only 2 wound up being good quality and 1 was so so. We wound up putting in all 3 and had DD as a result.

      When TTC #2 we again did an IVF and my results were nearly the same. I had 5 eggs and 3 fertilized, but the quality wasn't great on any of them. That IVF cycle failed, but we got pg on our own the very next month. good luck to you in your journey, whatever you decide.

  • Oh Holly. I am so sorry. Don't give up, it can still happen with one follie. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Darn it!  I'm so sorry, Holly.  Having to convert to an IUI really stinks, and I totally know what you mean when you say you're sick of thinking about all of this.  If it means anything at all, I think you and DH made a good decision.  I hope you're feeling better soon.  We love you!
  • Oh Holly, don't give up hope.

    I completely understand your need to take a little mental break (I'm still 50/50 on mine!)  Focus on you and your husband and the wonderful life you have together no matter what.

  • I'm sorry and I hope the IUI works.
  • Oh, no! I'm sorry, Holly.  Maybe you will be surprised and the IUI will work.  It can happen!  As others said, it doesn't sound like 3 follies means IVF is a done deal...but I understand you not feeling positive about that number right now.   We're thinking of you and sending hugs!

  • I am sorry to hear....and as pp have said you need to do what is right for you and your DH. It is so easy to get caught up in the TTC whirlwind and love your mindset on focusing on everything you DO have in your life!! Keep up the positive thoughts and know you have so much support and thoughts coming your way.

    {{{Hugs to you}}}

  • I'm so so sorry, I know how hard it is and only you and DH can make the right decision for you.  The surgery is invasive and the emotional aspect is overwhelming.  I hope that one of the follies decides to cooperate and gives you a little surprise in two weeks.

    {{{hugs}}}

  • Oh Holly I know exactly how you feel.  {{sigh}}

    Don't rule out IUI though, you really never know.  I do know people who had success with their Hail Mary tries.

    Good luck in figuring out your next steps.  It will definitely give you peace of mind to have a plan.

  • I had only 3 eggs when we moved onto IVF, I was insistent upon moving forward but my RE was not. he did not want to but all 3 fertilized and I ave an awesome baby girl now. Why would you not go  forward and try before using donor eggs? The RE and transfer was painless and I would have done anything to get pregnant. I would have moved onto to DE but not until I tried my own..Good luck with your decision
  • Holly, Im so sorry.    This whole process is so difficult.   I really really hope that this IUI does work for you.  Sometimes the Hail Mary does work.

    Also remember that there are several different protocols for IVF.  If you do decide to try again with your own eggs, maybe you will have a better response with a different protocol.

  • I'm so sorry, Holly. Take all the time you need. Sometimes I find it really helpful to take that time to focus on the good things in my life, too. I hope you find some comfort in that. Hope to see you again soon.

  • I'm coming in late here, but I just wanted to let you know I totally hear ya. I'm really sorry you didn't get a better response, and you can only do what your gut tells you to at this point.

    Take care of yourself.

  • So sorry that this cycle is not working out as you planned.  Good luck on the IUI.  3 is a good number for IUI, I think.

  • I'm so sorry that I'm late responding!  I've been out of town w/o internet access.

    First and foremost, I'm sorry that you guys are going thru this.  It just sucks!  IUI's do work (just look at Mrs Kario!), so don't give up hope.

    Also, remember that it's very possible to get pregnant thru IVF with just one mature follicle.  I did - twice.  You guys need to do what feels best to you.  I just don't want you to loose hope.

    Know that we'll be here for you whatever you decide!
