High-Risk Pregnancy

elevated liver enzymes??

Hi, I am 30 weeks PG with my 2nd DD, I just spent 1 week in the hospital with pyelonephritis and unexplained elevated liver enzymes.  Pyelo has resolved itself but liver enzymes keep elevating.  I am home now doing another 24 hour urine and have another appt in the morning, nurse said bring a bag and don't be surprised to be re-admitted.  Anyone here with a similar experience??  Oh, BP as been good thus far.  THANKS!!

Re: elevated liver enzymes??

  • I am sitting in the hospital for this right now.  My levels have been elevated for a few weeks now.  Every test they run to see why (Hepatitis B, Cholestis (sp?) etc) comes back either negative or normal.  My OB had me admitted Tuesday and requested a GI doctor come in and check out my liver and gallbladder.  I've had an ultrasound on my liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidneys etc...all came back showing nothing irregular or alarming.  I am currently waiting on more test results on a few of the tests the GI doctor ordered but she has already told me she thinks they will be normal as well.

I feel totally normal...no pain, no headaches, no blurry vision and my BP is good. I finished up my 24 hour urine and I'm not spilling protein.  The docs have ruled out Pre-E, but are still trying to figure out why the levels are elevated.

  • Boy does this sound familiar!!  I was in for 5 days....they ran ever test in the book.  They did find a gallstone in the hunt, but I have no pain on palpation or after meals.  My urine is bright orange (looks like carrot juice)  with billirubin in it??  May I ask if this has affected your urine at all?  Please keep me posted....GL!!

  • I hope you don't ever have any pain with the gallstone!!

My urine hasn't been dark either. I'm a complete weirdo who is ready to go home LOL

Good luck to you too.  I'll find this post and update you once I hear something!

  • In my last pregnancy i had elevated liver enzymes and after much chaos was diagnosed with cholestasis. I had dark urine, light stool and debilitating itching mostly on my hands and feet. I was induced 2 days later due to possible complications for my LO. Please be sure to ask your doctor about it since it has a higher rish of still birth, preterm labor, and hemmorage after birth for both you and baby. It's pretty rare and my midwife didnt even want to test for it, my enzymes were up and down, but even in well managed cases they reccommend induction by 37 weeks to lessen effect on baby. My daughter had jaundice when she was born, another side effect of cholestasis..
