How to cope with backaches

For the past few days I have been having horribly painful lower back pain. Nothing I seem to do is helping to relieve it. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I have tried tylenol, and attempted at small stretches~but I am literally having to crawl on the floor to get to places. Help please!!

Maggie

p.s. I have called my doctor and am waiting to hear back as I type this!

Re: How to cope with backaches

  • I had plenty of nights when I had to crawl to the bathoom because it hurt so much to go from a laying position to walking.  I upped my chiro visits to every other week, my OB gave me a referal to physical therapy for 2x a week, and I just decided that I'm going to do a monthly massage, too.  In between when it hurts they gave me muscle strengthening exercises and stretches to do at home and was told to ice it down liberally with 20 minutes brakes in between all day of I have to.  It's like a whole job just to feel okay enough to get around.

  • im also suffering big time from backpain..and im allergic to tylonol lol, so what ive been doing is making DH rub my back all the time, taking long warm baths, and i bought a heating pad i use ever night before bed.. it doesnt take it completly away for long.. but it does relieve some of the tension.
  • I had horrible back pain with DS. Nothing really made it go away but a heating pad on my back helped some. Sorry! At 37wks my back pain went away but sciatic nerve pain started which was way worse for me.

  • Just got a call back from my doc finally. He told he to try some stretches in the morning, as well  as after warm showers. Also to try lining my back up against the wall. I am sure you all heard this too from your docs, but how the heck am I suppose to stretch out when I am having problems standing up and walking around?!! :) Thanks ladies for your ideas and stories. I don't feel so alone with it right now. *BIG HUGS* and rub those bellies!

  • I just asked my OB about this. She recommended a heating pad (on a lower setting) and pre-natal massage. So far the heating pad has really helped and I'm going to schedule a massage soon. Any excuse for a massage!
