When should I start researching different childbirth classes and where should I start? Is this something I talk to my doctor about? I go to AAOBGYN, so if you go there, what did they recommend to you? Also, is there such a thing as breastfeeding classes? (Don't laugh.) Seriously, I want to breastfeed but it seems so foreign to me and it makes me nervous. I'd like to know more about it and feel more comfortable once the baby is here. Any info would be great!
Re: Childbirth Classes ?
I took a class, but I can't really recommend it, to be honest. I know a lady, Shelley Scotka, who is a doula and childbirth educator. She will do a personal class for you for a very reasonable cost. I did like my breastfeeding class, but can't for the life of me remember who ran it!

I think most classes are 6 - 8 weeks long and you probably want to be finished with your class no later than 37 weeks so you'll probably want to start taking your class around 30 weeks pregnant. I took hypbobirthing at hypnobirthingtexas.com and we also took their breastfeeding class. Both were really educational! I had no idea about breastfeeding either so it really helped me out.
My OBGYN offered information on the 3 main types of classes: Birthing from Within, the Bradley Method and Hypnobirthing. I would just start researching to see which one seems best for you and contact some local classes. They'll probably offer some type of breastfeeding class too, or at least recommend one
.Good luck
Yep talk to your doctor, mine had a sheet with all the different classes(including breastfeeding, it's foreign to most people
) most classes were just one Saturday or 2 evenings, but I went to RWG so they may offer soomething different at AAOBGYN.
You'll also want to do a hospital tour, that was especially helpful, and you don't have to sign up just look on the hospital website to find out when to show up.
Look on the website for AAOBGYN--it lists the classes, times, and costs.
At my 20 wk appointment, I was offerred handouts and flyers about classes.
