Probably around 4-5mths or so. She was also on the large side (21lbs at 4mths old). It's kind of easier w/the infant carrier if they're sleeping, but it's nice not to lug it around anymore too.

I just ordered a new one. My LO is almost 20 lbs and we have the snugride 32. He hasn't outgrown it yet but its just too much to carry around now and he crys everytime he goes in it. Hoping a new one helps.
We're still in her infant seat. DD is somewhat little and fits very well in it. Not growing out of it any time soon - we have the Chicco whatever, I forget the name, it's the travel system. My SIL had her son in his (the same seat) until he was a year and DD is smaller than our nephew so I feel like she'll be fine for a while longer in it.
We bought one last month, and will be getting it together this weekend. Also making the change for height limit being reached, not weight, as DS is still only about 19 lbs.
We switched right before DD was 6 months. She's a little on the long side and was getting really uncomfortable in her infant seat. She loves the convertible seat, it's been great so far!!
Ours is good for up to 32lbs and DD is 17lbs now. It's really heavy and hard to get both her and the seat into the car. I don't know how much longer we'll be using it as a carrier...mostly just as a seat. I'm just starting to do research on convertibles.
We switched at five months. He wasn't at the weight limit, but he was definitely pushing the height restrictions. And I don't miss lugging that thing around.
