Yesterday at my (almost) 39w appt, my dr said I am measuring small. I was really surprised to hear this. She didn't seem super concerned, but I am going tomorrow afternoon for a growth ultrasound to see what's going on. The dr did say it could be a positional thing, like maybe last week she stuck her butt out and this week she was all tucked up, but she didn't really say anything else about what they would be looking for or what the potential concerns might be.
I guess I'm not really worried, especially since she didn't feel the need to rush the u/s or anything like that. Has anyone else experienced this?
Re: 39w and growth u/s requested
I actually had the opposite. Had to have a growth U/S at 39w because DS was gigantic, and they wanted to be sure I could try for a vag delivery. It was nice, because I got to see him again.
And if they didn't rush you to the OR for a C/S, I wouldn't worry. You'll definitely know lots more tomorrow. I liked mine. The tech took time and I got a great look at LO!
I had this happen at my appt at 38 weeks. I was always measuring big but then slowed down towards the end. They werent too concerned, but said they do it to make sure. After having my ultrasound, everything was great, and 4 days later had a healthy baby boy weighing almost 8 lbs. I think a lot of times the babies begin to run out of room so they can't stretch as much as they did before which can cause measurements to be off a little.

All of your responses are kind of my thoughts about this, but it's still great to get reassurance from others who have gone through it! Thanks for the encouragement and support!
I had to have a lot of these when I was pregnant with Haley! I measured small a lot. With Haley, it was a positional thing. She was born at 38w6d and was 6lb 13 oz. So - she wasn't that little, but she was always positioned REALLY low. So - maybe that's the case with you. Also - I was just at my 33 wk appt yesterday and am measuring behind, but baby dropped a few days ago, so my OB siad that was why I'm measuring small this time.
Good luck and keep us posted!
I agree with Mel. Keep us posted and enjoy getting to see your little one!
I measured small all the time with both kids. They were both born term, but small-ish (5lbs 9 and 5lbs 12oz). The BPP ultrasound isn't a big deal and you're right if they were truly worried you would have been sent right away!
Good luck!
Jocelyn,
Yup! I'm having this exactly. At 35 wks I was measuring 32, just like I was at 32, then I was measuring 32 again at 36, and at 39 I am just now measuring 35. I had my growth u/s at 35 weeks and everything looked great, but every time I go now I ask my doctor if I should have another one and she does not seem concerned at all even though I am still a few weeks behind. I have been concerned myself a bit, but I know that fundal height measurements are really position-dependent and aren't always a great measurement, especially at the end of pregnancy. I'm tall and have along torso, and the baby is pretty far back, especially when I lie down. My u/s tech told me I "just hide him well."
Good luck with your u/s -- I'm sure everything is great, and at least you'll get to see her again and get a size/length estimate before birth!
Beating a dead horse here, but ditto the others. I had a growth u/s at 40w because even though E was measuring big, her growth and slowed. It was no big deal at all, and my OB said that if anything looked off at all, she'd get the baby out and it would be fine (clearly I was due anyway).
