TTC after 35

acupunture...

I know I've seen a post on this...so I apologize for duplicating it...I can't seem to find it and I searched several pages back.

I've decided to venture into acupunture prior to my IUI tomorrow (Fri).  I was fortunate enough to 'catch' the acupunturist while she had a cancellation!  I'm slightly nervous...not because of the needles - they don't bother me - just in general nervous.

Anyone have any stories/experiences to share?   Thanks!

Re: acupunture...

  • My elderly greyhound loved it.  We took him every 2 weeks for the last 6 months of his life for his hip arthritis.  The vet says that animals respond well because they don't think about it and are not predjudice to it.  They just let it work.  So, try to go in assuming it works.  Good luck!
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • Sorry to hear that he's gone, good to know that the acupunture helped.  I have a coworker that told me she had her horse go thru acupunture too.

:::giggles:::  Just the image in my head of a horse laying / standing there with all these needles....

I'm going to try and just 'let it work'.  I'm usually pretty open to most things so we'll see.

  • I did acupuncture before my IVF.  I didn't mind doing it, it just wasn't what I expected.  I was expecting kind of a meditation type enviroment like arromathherapy, new age music.  Instead it was very clinical and I spent the whole time staring at flourecent lights :) It wasn't painful just kind of uncomfortable.

    Good luck with you IUI!!

This is what I'm picturing/expecting too...especially since the acupuncture clinic is in the same building space as the Fertility Clinic...we'll see.    :)

  • Before we had DD #1 I did acupuncture for one month. It didn't coincide with fertility treatments though. It took us 2 yrs to successfully conceive DD via IVF and I tried tons of stuff to try to get pg, including acu when I hate needles.

I also felt it was very clinical. just stuck me with a bunch of pins and i laid there and waited. needless to say, we did get pg that month, but it ended in a natural mc and the next month i made an RE appt.

i think it doesn't hurt to try it if you want, just don't put too much value into it.

  • Rach-

I'm a firm believer in it.  I don't have a problem with needles though [thank God or I would be out of luck TTC ;)] I was TTC #1 for 3 years with injections and  IUI.  Took a break after my last BFN I  started acupuncture and was PG within 6 weeks.

I went to a Korean Dr. and he would do the treatment with soft Asian music playing. I would breath deeply prior to him starting and then he would shut the light off, and turn the heat lamps on and I would relax/sleep for about 35-40 minutes.

I loved it and was always relaxed after I left.  GL to you and on your IUI!

  • Ive been 3 times and my lady always turns the lights down, puts a heat lamp on my feet (love this) and plays a relaxation cd. I nearly fall asleep and feel like I'm in a trance when I leave...

At the least I figure it helps me relax, as I am a natural worry wort :) Its pricy, but for IVF I figure its worth it.

Maybe try to look at the office u are thinking of going too first? If its super clinical it will feel totally different and you might not get as much out of it? I go to one that is rec'd by my RE and they specialize in infertiity, so I think they decorated it very nicely just to create an overall experience? GL!!?

  • Well...let me tell you...I think acupunture is my new 'thing'!!!  I loved it!  The room was sort of like going in for a massage...lights were NOT flourescent and there was a CD playing of soft, relaxing music.  I did not even feel the needles.  And, can I just say....OMG to the heat lamp...again, loved it!  And talk about relaxed...I fell asleep!   So, I guess that means I was relaxed, right?  LOL!!    Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
