How big is your house?

Ours is 1500 sq feet and I feel like we are running out of space with just one LO and all her "stuff" but I have a feeling even if we had more room it would take over the house anyways.

Anyone have a tiny apt? My sis is pg and moving to Boston this summer. She probably will only have 700 sq feet. How do you make it work?

  • Ours is 1265, I think you have to make it work, we can't sell our house, probably right now not even to break even. We have 3bd/2bath, it works for us right now.
  • 1100 sq ft.

We a ton of built ins and window type seating in our eat-in kitchen and bedroom with storage underneath. Plus we a detached garage that is huge with an attic area to store things. Even so, we are running out of room too. I am a bit disorganized so I know I am not using all our storage areas to the best of their abilities :)

  • I have no idea sq ft wise. We had a tiny apt when DS was born. In the living room all we were able to have was a couch an end table the entertainment center, DH's fish tank and a swing.. You werent able to see any wall.. because everything was on it.

We moved into a house in August.. Its a decent size. I would love a little bigger. Its semi-cluttered with all of DS toys.. but eh, its something Im going to have to live with.. for a long long time.

  • We live in Boston, 2bd apt, but have a little over 1200sq/ft. Given what you have, you make it work. A friend of mine has a million dollar condo on Comm Ave, a 1 year old, and it's only about 600 sq/ft (1 room!)... they have the necessities, but spend most of their time out of the house. When you live in a city, you are out walking and in the park more than in your house. Not sure if this is at all helpful. I feel like the bigger space you have, the more crap you accumulate, and no matter what, there is never enough space.

  • We have a 1200 sq ft place in our hometown and a 1200 sq ft apt where we are at now. ?Both are small and we are constantly moving things around and rearranging things to make room for all the baby/dog crap.

  • 1100SF.  Too small but we make it work.
  • i have no idea how many sq ft but we have 4br and 2 bathrooms. somehow i still don't have anywhere to put all our crap!
  • We have 1,000 sq feet - and it is super tiny and we are so cramped.  But we just try to make it work.  Things I have done are (1) got rid of a lot of the unnecessary decorations, etc. (fake plants, other "just for decoration" type things), (2) we have turned our spare bathroom into a storage closet for some extra stuff Sad, (3) we try not to over-indulge LO with too many toys - all of her toys fit into a big plastic laundry basket that we are currently using until we get a toy box, and (4) we have turned our "office" into a multi-purpose room which has the desk, the spare bed, and our turtle stand.

    I can't wait to move!

  • I have a 3 bedroom, 1500sq ft. townhouse....and I feel like I can't manage...but then again I really didn't think we would still be here so I didnt conserve space like I could have.  I think you can do it in an apt. you just have to be smart about furniture, etc.

  • About 1900 sq ft- 3 br.  We definitely don't use the space to the best of its ability.  Like why do I have a formal dining room?  I use it twice a year- I should have made it a playroom.  In the next house I'll be better at using space.

  • 1274, but we also have a finished basement equally the same square footage (total 2548 of space) .    It's the perfect size for us - I wouldn't want any more to clean!

eta:  The house we had when we had just one baby was 900 square feet with an unfinished basement - 2 bedrooms.   It definitely was a decent size for 1 baby.  But, we also had a big yard.

  • Our house is 1500 sq ft and it's too small!! It's 3bds/2bths but all the rooms are small and if we have another child we wont have any room for storage. But I'm not complaining because my aunt left it to us when she got remarried. We haven't paid a cent in rent or a mortage.

  • 2300 sq feet, but I still feel like LO's stuff takes over the house sometimes.
  • I think it's 1700 or 1800 sq ft. 3 bed 2 bath. It recently got alot better space wise. We got rid of exersaucer she doesnt use and folded up PNP she wont nap in. Now our TV room seems HUGE :)
  • 3,100 square feet

5 bedrooms, 3 bath on the lake

  • We have a small 950 sq ft condo. It's getting smaller and smaller every day. We can't move b/c we're under water. It's horrible. We need to make use of our storage better and buy some more storage units.
  • About 2200-2300 sq feet.  I kinda can't wait to get the jumperoo out of the living room. That, those foamy squares and all her toys spread out on the living room floor takes up a lot it seems.

Our house is 4500 sq ft.  But all the "living" is done on the 1st floor.  Our bedroom is on the 1st floor and so is DD's.  Her toys are all over our family room.  I think our house is too big & there area times when I don't go upstairs for a week or so.  But I feel like out living room has been over taken by toys, toys & more toys!

  • 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths.. 2000 square feet plus a full finished basement
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Not including the basement - 1715 sq ft.  Once we finish the basement we will have 2200 sq ft but I feel like we are cramped in here because we are so terrible at getting rid of stuff and organizing.

  • We have 3,000 and I don't feel like it is enough. Sadly, we need more space for DH's toys and not DD's.

  • About 1500 sq. ft., but we have a partially finished basement that has a lot of storage + a 2 car "oversized" garage.  We're also not pack-rats, which helps.

  • 2,300 finished square feet and about another 1,000 unfinished square feet in the basement. Its small for our area and we are already outgrowing it.

  • we don't have a house... we rent a 2 bedroom condo. it's about 1500 sq feet.
  • a little over 2100 sq ft.
  • 4200 sq. feet not including a 1,000 sq. ft unfinished basement.  Honestly, I think that no matter how big (or small) your house is, there is never enough room.  The bigger the house, the more sh*t you put in it!!
  • Yep, I think our apt is small. . . . we have no room for any of our crap. :(

  • around 1800SF, not including the basement but it's unfinished - working on that this summer hopefully!! it's only a 2BR though, so eventually we'll move or add on if we decide to have more kids.

    this!!!!!

5000 sq ft - 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms.  we are completely out of storage space so DH is coming up with creative ways to build storage in the garage.  we have more than enough living space, but the storage is KILLING us with all of the crap we have.....

We're just over 1700 and have the same problem.  DH and his bikes (road and tri) take up a lot of space and he refuses to put his "babies" outside.

  • I would LOVE 1500 square feet....we have 860 and two dogs plus Zander and I feel like we live in a tiny box. Our living room is overrun with baby stuff and then we put as much in his small room as possible, and it works...
  • haha I would LOVE 800 sq ft. Our apartment is 300 sq ft. no joke

  • We live in an apartment so I have no idea what the sq footage is but I know we are not using the space efficiently. We have 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, front room and 1 bathroom. The 3rd bedroom is a guest bedroom/storage room.

The front room is totally underused. We have a couch, a table with SO's computer on it and a little bookcase in there. The space could be and should be used for storage but I have no idea how to go about it. I desperately need ideas on how to utilize that room to the fullest.

I think we are approaching underwater as well.

  • 3500 and after spring cleaning last week, way too big!

It's funny though, I still don't feel like we have enough storage.  Our old house was 1500 plus fully finished basement and we had so much more storage somehow.

  • Our house is 1700 sq. ft. I wish we had a basement for storage, but houses just don't have basements here. I definitely don't feel like we are running out of room. Once the second one comes I can see that happening though!

This.  900 sq ft one bedroom condo and nowhere to put anything.  It's a disaster.
