Babies: 3 - 6 Months

How do you get cleaning/chores done??

She wont let me do a thing.   I constantly have to distract her so she will let me do the most trivial of things around the house.

Even bumping now, I have to do it with one hand and holding her with the other.

I'm *this close* to letting her wail if she wants be picked up.  My house needs to be cleaned.  How do you guys do it?

  • DH and I normally power clean during nap time on Saturdays.

  • DD entertains herself pretty well if I lay her on her back on a blanket on the floor.  I put a toy just out of reach on both sides and she rolls all over the place.  Sometimes she just lays on her back and looks at the ceiling.  Mostly I think she just likes to be in a different place besides the bouncey or crib.

  • Put her in a carrier and just let her clean with me! haha seriously she always falls asleep when i vacuum!

I wear DS in my moby or beco.  I can do chores, eat, etc.  Also since I wear him a lot for naps it seems like he doesn't mind the separation for 15-20 minutes and I can leave him in the bouncer, erxersaucer while I shower or cook.  I highly recommend it!

  • He's the easy part... it's my 2 and 4 year olds that are the problem.  DS naps for about 3 hours mid-day so I usually do it then.  And if it's a good day the 2 year old also naps part of that time.

ugh, my kid is not at all independent like this!  I'm trying to get her to be like that.  playing with a toy by herself?  no way!  She wants mommy to play with her :-/ and the toy.

I also was going to say, around this age babies start having seperation anxiety, so your LO may be extra clingy, which is normal.  Hang in there!

Linc is pretty good about letting me clean, in fact he thinks it's funny when I fold towels (no idea why!). But I'm a firm believer in the power clean. I can get more done in 1 hour of power cleaning than a whole week of getting things done here and there. Sometimes I'll do this right when he falls asleep at night for half an hour or so just to tidy everything before the new day. It makes it a lot easier to actually "clean" in the morning if everything is already tidied.

  • I usually clean the kitchen at night time while DH is giving Mason a bath.  It's not the best cleaning job, but it's good enough for right now.

On the weekends I do all the cleaning and laundry while he is napping.  Other than that, my house usually looks like a wreck!

Glad to know I'm not the only one!  :-)

I am hiring a cleaning lady.  I just can't do it!

Back in Miami, I could have gotten a reliable, trustworthy, cleaning lady one for cheap.  Here in NC, I just don't know where to start.  These agencies charge too much!   Good idea though.

I don't. I'm a WM and I drop off and pick up Sabrina every day. We leave about 615AM and come home at around 445PM. From 445-630PM I play with her or hold her if she's napping (she doesn't get much rest at DC as it's SO stimulating) as it's my only time with her during the week. She goes to bed at 7PM (lately it's been 645 cuz she's SO tired). DH and I eat delivery or takeout after that. Yes, every night. We don't cook, we don't clean during the week bc we have so little time with her. After she goes to sleep and we get done eating, we veg for an hour or so and I go to bed after cleaning and prepping her bottles for the next day. We spot clean here and there but don't really get anything done until the weekend - and even then, it's never spotless.  I'm not a fan of a constant mess, but unless we hire a housekeeper and a cook, there's no other way around it right now and to me, spending time with her is just far more important than a clean home... and it's not that we live in filth, but it's definitely not in a state where we'd appreciate guests "dropping" by!

  • I don't get a lot of cleaning done during the week. I leave my house at 6:30 every morning and I get home by 4:30 every afternoon. I like to spend the little bit of time that I have with DD interacting with her. Once she's in bed, DH and I spend time watching TV or just talking and catching up with each other. I do have to wash bottles every night and so the dishes normally get done while I'm washing bottles. DH will do the laundry for me on his days off, but he won't put the clean clothes away (this is frustrating!). So, my house isn't very clean these days. We keep the top layer done, it's definitely not dirty, but it isn't clean like it used to be before Tegan was born.

  • I use the bathtub, exersaucer and his bumbo seat with tray for his toys to keep him occupied while I do chores. He will literally play in the bathtub for a half hour so I get a lot of stuff done then.

  • Well...I don't do it very often.  One Saturday it took me 5 hours to clean 3 rooms - the living room, my BR and the nursery.  My house is only 1600 sf.  I had to stop every 15 min to either nurse DH, play with him or move him from one toy to another.

The last house cleaning was done by my mom while I was at work.  Have I mentioned how much I love my mom???

This weekend DH and I plan to double team it.  We'll swap off cleaning and watching DS.  It will probably take all freaking day.

  • nap time.

or I wear DD while vacuuming and picking stuff up. I do have to say that DD2 is very laid back. So I can put her down on her activity mat or w/ a toy and she'll happily play for a long time. DD1 wasn't like that, so it was all about the naps and the Ergo :)
